GORUCK GR Echo initial thoughts
9 February 2012 | Comments | 12 notes | ⇀
The GORUCK GR Echo that I ordered a couple of weeks ago just arrived (I also ordered its bigger brother, the GR2, but it’s still in transit and is somewhere in California at present read my review here). I haven’t found that many reviews of it online so I thought I’d post some pictures and first impressions.

Video: How weatherproof are GORUCK bags?
4 September 2011 | Comments | 6 notes | ⇀
I’ve been asked a few times if the GORUCK bags really are weatherproof.
This is something I intend to test fully during September’s Invesco Perpetual Highland Adventure Race, however in the meantime, there’s a short video demonstration after the break.

GORUCK GR2 review
30 August 2011 | Comments | 13 notes | ⇀
Back when I placed my order for a GORUCK Echo, I placed a simultaneous order for a GORUCK GR2. I travel quite a lot, especially at weekends, and the thing I hate about it most is living from a rucksack. Trouble is, you can’t argue with the practicality of one when moving from one location to the next. Holdalls and trolley style travel bags are a real pain to move around, especially in confined spaces (such as a ship).

Billingham Hadley Pro camera bag first impressions
2 June 2011 | Comments | 9 notes | ⇀
For my birthday this year, I was lucky enough to receive a Billingham Hadley Pro camera bag in black canvas with black leather trim. I’ve long admired the Billingham range of camera bags, however I haven’t been able to justify spending upwards of £100 on a camera bag when my LowePro Stealth Reporter does just fine. Recently though, I have found that the LowePro bag is uncomfortable when carrying a couple of lenses and a body, plus it’s quite square and bulky. One of the big claims of the Billingham Hadley range is that their slim shape means that the weight of your camera equipment is carried closer to your body and therefore seems to weigh less. Time will tell whether this is the case or not.

Review: DODOcase for iPad 2
9 April 2011 | Comments | ⇀
When the original iPad came out, I had one on pre-order from day 1. I also ordered one of Apple’s own covers for it as it looked pretty smart and the ability to use it as a typing stand or while watching movies seemed like a really great feature. In reality, the case never really lived up to the iPad it was protecting. Surprisingly bulky for something which offered so little protection (my iPad acquired a few dents through the case), it quickly got very grubby and it began to come apart at one of the seams. Having paid good money for it, I was reluctant to buy something better. When I saw the original DODOcase for iPad, I knew I had found the ‘something better’. Long waiting lists and expensive shipping costs to the UK stopped me from getting one.

Review: Marware MicroShell case for iPhone 4
26 February 2011 | Comments | 14 notes | ⇀
My friends at MobileFun – specialists in iPhone 4 cases – recently offered me a Marware iPhone 4 case to review. I chose the MicroShell for iPhone 4 in black. I wanted to compare it to the Incipio Feather Case which I reviewed previously.

Review: Incipio Feather case for iPhone 4
21 November 2010 | Comments | ⇀
Incipio’s Feather Case for iPhone 4 is a very lightweight, minimalist case. The black version that I tested is made of a soft touch plastic that feels good to hold and gives you some extra grip compared with the shiny glass back of the iPhone itself. It also rounds out the sharp feel to the phone, making it feel more comfortable in the hand.
