The 2012 Honda CR-V

spacer spacer

I'm typically not an SUV person... I, from the moment I became engaged couldn't wait to become a minivan mom.   {Yet, I'm still not a minivan mom!}

If you aren't the minivan type but need more space you may opt for an SUV.

I recently had the opportunity to review and learn a little more about the 2012 Honda CR-V.

spacer
The new CR-V comes with a more sleek and sophisticated body style which is more aerodynamically efficient.

The new model takes on a more aggressive stance with deeper sculpting of the body lines and a bolder front fascia, highlighted by a horizontal three-bar grille and deeply set multi-reflector headlights.

New for the 2012 Honda CR-V

• More efficient engine design with improved horsepower and torque
• Available Real Time AWD with Intelligent Control System™
• New-for-2012 standard features include an Easy Fold-Down 60/40 Split Rear Seat, Eco Assist™, Expanded View Driver’s Mirror and Motion-Adaptive Electric Power Steering (EPS)
• New-for-2012 features include intelligent Multi-Information Display (i-MID), Pandora internet radio interface, SMS text messaging function, and available DVD Rear Entertainment System and FM Traffic

Front Seats
spacer For 2012, the front seats of the CR-V have been completely redesigned with a more supportive seat construction, structure and padding. The seats are now wider with more supportive side bolsters that give the seats a secure feel particularly when cornering. The driver’s seat height adjustability range has been increased by 0.4-inch and the driving position now has a more car-like orientation, even though the driver’s vantage point above the road and commanding view is essentially unchanged.

Having a sedan and two children that are still in car seats, space is always an issue when traveling.  So, an entry level SUV would be a great option to consider if looking for a new vehicle.

The kids and car seats would fit with ease into the second row, while luggage, groceries, etc... are simply loaded into the cargo area.

...because who can resist Matthew Broderick?

ECON Mode
All CR-V models are equipped with an ECON button on the left side of the dashboard as part of the Eco Assist™ system. When activated, ECON mode alters the Drive-by-Wire throttle system response curve in the range from about 10 percent of pedal movement to 80 percent. With less gain, the throttle opening in this range increases more gradually to reduce a potentially excessive peak input for better fuel efficiency. ECON mode also alters the operation of the cruise control system and the air conditioning system, allowing for slightly increased variances with the set speed or the set temperature in order to conserve fuel whenever possible.

CR-V Safety Summary

• Advanced Compatibility Engineering™ (ACE™) body structure
• Vehicle Stability Assist™ (VSA®) with traction control
• 4-wheel disc ABS, Electronic Brake Distribution (EBD) and Brake Assist
• Dual-stage, multiple-threshold front airbags, front-seat side airbags and side curtain airbags with rollover sensor
• Lower Anchors and Tethers for CHildren (LATCH) system in second-row outboard seats
• Pedestrian injury mitigation design in the front of the vehicle

This not-an-SUV-person would totally consider the CR-V if looking to purchase a new vehicle.

I admit, I Enjoy...

I enjoy watching cartoons with my kids. I really enjoy watching Martha Speaks with my daughter. She's old enough that she understands some of the humor and we have a good time watching together.

If you don't know what Martha Speaks is...

Martha Speaks is a sitcom based on the 1992 children's book of the same name by Susan Meddaugh about a talking dog named Martha (voiced by Tabitha St. Germain), who is owned by ten-year-old Helen Lorraine (known in the books as Helen Finney). When Helen feeds Martha some alphabet soup, the soup travels to her brain instead of her stomach, resulting in her ability to speak. The show focuses on synonyms and vocabulary, with each episode featuring an underlying theme illustrated with key words. The show takes place in the fictional town of Wagstaff City, a parody of Flagstaff, Arizona.

Martha can understand most animal languages except for a few exotic animals such as monkeys and giraffes. These languages are simple, as slight elongation or slightly higher pitch will mean something entirely different. In the episode "Itchy Martha", Martha teaches T.D.'s father to speak a word in dog, coaching him to say it exactly right. Almost all animals are able to understand some sort of human language but are unable to speak it. In a newer episode, it is revealed that Martha understands a wide range of animal languages, possibly because they have the same grammar system.

What I Want for My Birthday

spacer spacer

spacer
This post is a part of The Blog Dare on Bloggy Moms.

Yesterday I was teasing my daughter that we did not need to get her anything this year for her birthday... as we've already given her so much the past 6 years. What else could she possibly need?

I love the moment she realizes that I am joking with her, and that smile forms on her face.

With a playful huff and bounce, she began listing exactly what her daddy and I could get her for her upcoming birthday.

Her birthday is a few days before mine.  Though I don't interrupt her birthday celebration with any sort of reminder that my birthday is near, I love that we can enjoy these days together.

However, I usually forget my birthday is approaching.  It's funny how motherhood can cause you to completely forget about things that you to be very important.  I use to look forward to being 10 years old, then 13 years old.  The next big birthdays were 16, 18 and 20  {That's not a typo.  I did not mean 21.  I looked forward to not being a teenager!}.

I've not bee so thrilled to reach any particular age since then.  Especially since I will be 32 at the next 'big celebration'.

Dan has already purchased and wrapped my birthday present.  The enjoyment I get from trying to pull details of the gift from my children will help me to remember that my birthday is approaching...

So, what do I want for my birthday?  Nothing.  It's so nice to have a present waiting for me... and I love the fun I can have guessing what it is.  I've actually been more blessed this past year than I could ever imagine.  Having had a tough year with my health, etc...  This birthday I see even more how i am truly blessed.

I am blessed to have woken up this morning.  Blessed with a husband I grow closer to each day.  Blessed with two children who challenge me to be a better person and mother.  I am blessed beyond measure.

Yes, there are things on my wish list...  I would like newer this, better that... and the list goes on...

A List for My Children

spacer spacer

Well before I had the opportunity to stay at home with my children, I had a list of things I wanted to do with them when I did get to be at home.

I never wrote that list down.

Increasingly I find myself not doing everything I wanted to do.

This makes me feel like a failure.

spacer I wonder if I've spent too much time behind my laptop. Have I spent too much time cleaning and organizing? Are too many minutes wasted marking things from my busy schedule?

In truth, I will probably spend my entire life feeling as if I haven't lived up to something I could have been or done. My hope is that my children do not feel this way about me.

On this cold January day here in Indiana, I am once again dreaming of this list.

{1} Laugh more often with my children

{2} Look in their eyes when they are speaking to me

{3} Have more patience when a mess is made and a drink is spilled

{4} Sit and read with them more than just for school or a bed time story

{5} Take more walks with them, observing the beautiful world around us

{6} Splash and play with them in their pool this Summer

{7} Take them to the State Park more often

{8} Watch their favorite cartoons/movies with them

{9} Tell them more stories of when I was a young girl

{10} Just sit and watch them be little

{11} Turn off all social media apps and power off the laptop daily. My kids deserve uninterrupted time.

Guest Post Inquiry...

spacer spacer
I enjoy having guest posts on A Bloggy Mom. I prefer them to be from another author... who has a blog. It's great if they link back to their blog when they send you an email pitch asking to guest post on your blog.

Over the course of the past year I have noticed an increased number of guest post pitches come my way... without any information as to who this author is. I usually receive their name, yet there is no other information to go on. These requests go unanswered.

I have done some snooping though. I've found that a lot of these solicitations, are in actuality advertisement posts... with links back to a website.

That is much too underhanded for me.

Tip: When you received a request for someone to guest post on your blog... research the author. If there are links in the post... go to the links.
