Bacon-Wrapped Tex-Mex Hot Dogs
Hi Friends!!
Before I share with you the recipe for these incredible tex-mex hot dogs, I wanted to let you know that I was recently interviewed by Food Lovers Website and I would love for you to go and check out my conversation with Correen. You might find out a thing or two that you did not know about me!
Now about those hot dogs…
On Memorial Day, apart from eating that delicious Frozen Mojito Pie, we also grilled a few things. Like these hot dogs.
I don’t think you can have a barbecue without hot dogs. Can you?
I like hot dogs because you can dress them up anyway that you want; relish, onions, bacon, cheese, etc… It’s all up to you.
This time around I knew I wanted them wrapped in bacon because everything tastes better with bacon, but I wasn’t sure what else I was going to throw on there. You know…to make them more interesting.
I then remembered a hot dog stand I used to go to when I was in college and they served their hot dogs Mexican style – salsa, chile peppers, nacho cheese – the works. Their hot dogs were amazing. Especially after a long night of clubbing studying.
What surprised me the most about these hot dogs was how impressed everyone was by them. I didn’t think you can impress with a hot dog, but I guess I can, and all I used were the few things that I already had in the fridge.
Grilled Bacon-Wrapped Tex-Mex Hot Dogs
You will need:
- 8 wooden toothpicks, soaked in water for 10 minutes
- 4 hot dogs
- 4 slices of bacon
- 4 hot dog buns
- 4 tablespoons sour cream, divided
- 1 avocado, cut into 8 slices
- 4 tablespoons hot or mild salsa, divided
Directions:
- Preheat the grill to medium-high.
- Wrap the bacon in a spiral around each hot dog, then secure the bacon with a toothpick on each side.
- Place the hot dogs on the grill and cook, turning once, until the bacon is crisp, about 5 minutes.
- In the meantime prepare the hot dog buns by spreading a tablespoon of sour cream on the inside of each bun.
- When the hot dogs are done, take out the toothpicks and put each hot dog into a bun.
- Top with 2 slices of avocado on each hot dog and a tablespoon of salsa.

Yea, I can see why everyone was impressed. Whew that a sexy looking hot dog! Well done
I only wish I knew you in the real world, not the virtual one, I would have really valued the invitation to your barbeque and can’t get over how delicious your hot dogs looks.
I love all things hot dogs, bacon, avocado and bread. I can’t wait to eat this.
Oh I love Hot Dogs….and with Bacon…YUMMY! I will definitely be trying this one out. Thanks for posting!
Bacon Wrapped Hot Dogs?! I literally almost just took a bite out of my computer screen. The avocado on top is a perfect addtional too!
I love how you can dress hot dogs so many different ways, too. And they’re just so easy. I have never tried them this way, though, but I have a feeling I need to try. I love the avocado on top.
That dog surely looks like super star of BBQ.
I can see why everyone loved your Tex-Mex hot dogs. All my favorite flavors and BACON!! These look so good and I wish I had one for lunch:)
I have to agree: everything does taste better with bacon:))
These look amazing Kate! Really delicious looking hot dogs! I also love your photos!!
Oh yes- you can TOTALLY impress with a hot dog! This is mouth-watering. I’ll take 2 please.
You can wrap anything with bacon and it will taste even better. But, I never thought of wrapping hot dogs with bacon! How did you come up with that idea!? I bet almost everyone here will give it a try. So easy we always have bacons in fridge and I’ll make sure to try this! Adding sour cream is an interesting twist (to me). That’s something we don’t have in the fridge all the time but I need to get a whole experience with your recipe. Thanks for sharing!
I agree, you can’t have a barbecue without hot dogs. Love that yours are wrapped in bacon. For this, they instantly get my vote!
This is one of our favorite things to make when we tailgate! We call them danger dogs- just cause all these random (sometimes ghetto) street vendors are always selling them in LA. Love the tex mex kick you added to them Kate!
Oh my gosh, I have to show these to my boyfriend, he will go crazy! Avocado on a hot dog is probably the best idea I have heard of in months, years even. Will have to make these!
According to Adam, hot dogs are among the most versatile food groups, along with pasta and dessert. I’m sure he’s going to be very pleased with this addition to the hot dog archive.
Bacon and Avocado on a hot dog? Perfect!
I have yet to have a bacon wrapped hot dog even though they are fairly abundant in San Diego (known as Tijuana Hot Dogs). I need to change this. Soon.
I haven’t had a hot dog in ages, but your toppings are tempting me in the worst way…these look fabulous! Off to read your interview
Yes please! Bacon makes everything better!
I would DEVOUR the veggie version of this dog!
Yum! I have to admit, I love a good hot dog. My bf is a fan of chili cheese dogs, but I prefer chicago style! Next time I think we will have to give the tex mex dog a try.
Yum Yum~ This reminds me of Grif Dogs in NYC. They have every type of dog you can imagine and plus there’s a speakeasy in there (thru the Phonebooth)
Hot dogs are definitely a “must” at a bbq and this is such a fun way to dress them up for the adults.
Well, with a hot dog that looks like that – it’s no surprise that everyone was impressed! I mean, bacon & avocado?! What’s not to love! Can’t wait to try this combo =)
