Over the past several months, I’ve had the privilege of getting to know a handful of Seattle based bloggers, designers and other fashion enthusiasts. Though Twitter has been the seed from which these friendships have grown, getting together offline at local events and meet-ups has transformed this little network into an expanding influential community in the area. For example, earlier this week, a few of us attended a Tweet-Up (yes, I’m serious) at the stylish Hotel Max, a local boutique hotel. Below is a video where I discussed this topic with Alix, Sara, Birdie, Jen and Nadine.
As expressed in the video, Twitter is a valuable tool for many reasons. I want to focus on the networking point because it can apply to everyone. I keep hearing the lyrics “There’s a place for us…” in my head as I write this…cheesy!
Regardless of if you’re into fashion, this video illustrates the value in networking offline, but is also proof of how connecting online can drive relationships and create communities. Too much of one without the other will rarely, if ever, produce the same outcome. Twitter and other social sites create a false sense of friendships. When you openly share pieces of your life in the public with people you’ve never met, it’s bound to cause confusion. To reiterate, if you’re going to spend time networking, make sure to take it beyond the keyboard.

If you love fashion and want to get more involved with related activities in your area, get on Twitter and search for “your city” + fashion to get a pulse for what’s going on and who is part of it. You don’t have to be a blogger to enjoy the some of the perks.
If you already have a Twitter account, feel free to comment with your username and include what city you’re in!
Great post dearie and I wholeheartedly agree. Twitter and my blog have been a great way to meet people but taking the on line…. off line has been the best part. There’s only so much that you can say in to 140 characters.
Love the picture, it’s fabulous. Looks like a fun group w/great taste Great post Jordana-thanks for sharing!
Erica – I’ll try to think of who I might know in your area…who knows, maybe someone will even find you throught the comment.
Alix – Absolutely…love our fashion posse and always have a blast!
Jessica – Thanks so much! Do you have Twitter? Where are you from?
Thanks for an interesting post – My blog has been constantley growing and this has shown how important (and helpful) it is to do more than blog online
This is such a great video! Love how you kind of did micro interviews with all your friends about Twitter, blogging and commerce. Plus everyone is as nice on the video as I would imagine them from Twitter! YAY
Awwwww! I <3 you guys!!
Also, my spam word was Ikea. That’s rad. Just thought I’d share.
Fantastic video! I wish I lived in Seattle now!
Search on Twitter for my city produces no results, but it’s kinda small, maybe I’m the only one here (
omg that is so amazing… and it’s really nice to see the video and meet you all… sort of.
Looks like the tweetup was a super fun time! I definately won’t miss the next one
(Oops, hope you didn’t read what i said about Twitter on IFB)
Anyway, love this, especially the video. It’s funny to me the comment about using social media to meet people who share your interests in fashion, working in fashion I feel like those are the only people I know. I often wonder if I need to expand my social scene beyond fashion people. But at the same time I see your video and remember how fucking fabulous we fashionistas are!
Such a great video and amazing post! You’re so right by making the online connections count by taking them beyond the keyboard. I had never really thought of it that way but its so, so true. One of my fave parts of social media/blogging has been meeting (in real life) such wonderful people! xx
You all are doing a great job! You have created something fresh, new, exciting, and trendy. I cant wait for the follow up! @Clutch_22 your the bomb!
This is such a cute video! I love that you point out that “social media” is really just the tool to drive the beginning of these great friendships! I’m NYC centric and always looking to connect with bloggers or other fashion enthusiasts. Next time you come to the city we’ll have to have a tweetup!
Feel free to follow me @_kristen
Also now I know if I ever take a trip to Seattle. I’m staying at Hotel Max!
This post has been a long time coming! Twitter has brought us all together and formed strong friendships, to a point where people think we have been friends for years not realizing that we just met last year! I think of it as a “dating website” for people looking to form friendships with like-minded folks. Thanks for doing this post and allowing me to be a part of it!
Wish this worked here in Spokane but, it seems there are NO fashion loving people in Spokane on Twitter but me.
*Steps up her move plans*
cute video
that’s so cute! xxx
So awesome! I also love meeting fellow fashion twitterers and vinties offline!
We usually go to the Fashion 2.0 Meetup here in NY and we’re hoping to start another group soon, more focused on vintage, since Fashion 2.0 is getting so huge. Who’s in NY and wants to come??!!
Jordana, are you coming for Fashion Week again?

I love this article and I could not agree more. I have been looking to find a few girls in the Bay Area, CA that are into fashion as much as I am. I have looked at MeetUp and sometimes get worried it will be a hoax or something, but I am motivated to find a good group of girls. Thanks for the great advice girlie!!
Nice Stuffs. I will keep visiting this very often.I don’t know what to say except that I have enjoyed reading your feed for today’s fashion.
