The Day My Life Changed…

by Jen, a priorfatgirl on January 1, 2010

I started on my journey in August of 2007. For two years I fought, kicked and cried my way through losing 90+lbs. I was well on my way to hitting an official 100lbs lost by August 1st, 2009 which was my 2 year anniversary. I was planning a big ‘ol celebration around here… until my life changed the evening before my final weigh-in. (Click here for more info).

Join me now, as I reevaluate my priorities, struggle to find out what “healthy” is while dealing with an emotional trauma, and continue to learn how to live a healthy life, no sugar coating included.

I like it big.

I like it big.

{insert that’s what she said joke here.}

Printed big, that is.

A few weeks ago, I started back up with #NROLW (New Rules of Lifting for Women) and love it. I love the following of a program, the fact that I can lift weights in 20-25 minutes & be done, and love the fact that by following it, it gets me out of cardio world and empowers me in a heavily-testosteroned section of the gym.

This is the 3rd time I’ve started #NROLW so I don’t have to bring the book with me, I know the exercises. Neither time before I actually finished the program but that never stops me from doing it again. I love that my gym has a pretty little red file cabinet to hold training schedules for it’s members – it makes forgetting my schedule at home, impossible.

I was thinking about my upcoming races, one in March and one in April. I still want to keep up with the #NROLW but it’s probably a good idea to be a little more organized and thoughtful in my next three months to ensure I’m ready for both races.

I spent some time last night googling training schedules. I found THIS ONE specific to the Get Lucky 7k I’m doing and it starts next week. I made a spreadsheet with the training and then continued the schedule for a few weeks until my Get in Gear 10k.

It’s a pretty aggressive schedule working out 6 days a week. On Friday’s I’ll consider my cross training yoga. I took my spreadsheet and emailed it to Kinko’s to have them print it big as in EXTRA BIG, WALL SIZE so I can hang it up and use my magical red marker to cross off my training. (Remember when I did that, here?)

Oh yes… I like it big.

Do you like it big {poster sized training schedules} like me?

I can’t wait to pick it up this weekend and hang the schedule up on my wall!   What are you looking foward to this weekend?

Who is your community?

by Jen, a priorfatgirl on February 9, 2012

We are each on our healthiness journey.

We are each responsible for our own decisions.

We are each in control of our life.

But the power of a supportive community can propel our healthiness journey to the next level by surrounding ourselves with the encouragement we need to keep going when we feel like giving up.

At the One Breath, One Step event a couple weeks ago, Philly D, one of our speakers talked about three things we must do in our healthiness journey:

  1. Rise up: wake up, be present and aware.
  2. Step up: step up to the challenge.
  3. Reach down: don’t forget to help those around you. Reach down and help them up.

Part of my community is you. My readers, my friends. While I blog mostly for my own selfish reasons and love the feedback I receive from you (by your comments of help, ideas, support and motivation), I also believe that by sharing my journey, I can help break down barriers that some may have in their journey.

The other part of my community is the PriorFatGirl forum. Initially when I launched it back in the late-fall, a lot of people registered. But participate died down because the realty is, some don’t find forums helpful. What was left was a core group of participants who log in to share struggles, get help from others and reach out to help others.

Your community won’t save the day. It won’t solve anything. But your community is what fills in between your lines – the support you need to keep going.

Who is your community?

2012 Running Goals: marathons & wedding planning collide

February 8, 2012

I spent the last four years adamantly insisting that I would never do it. I put people who did it themselves, in league of their own – they worked hard for it and deserved all the accolades in the world. But I never had any intention of ever wanting to do it myself. The thought [...]
