  • Honda is recalling certain 2012 model year Accord and Crosstour passenger cars over concerns about potentially faulty front side-curtain airbags.

A notice on the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) site lists the number of potential affected units at just 347. Documentation from Honda indicates that the recall affects two-door and four-door Accord and Crosstour vehicles.

At issue is that the driver-side or passenger-side side curtain airbag inflator may not have been manufactured according to the correct specifications. The defect could result in the airbag failing to deploy in the event of a crash, increasing the risk of injury.

Honda will notify owners beginning on or about February 10, 2012 and advise them to bring their vehicles to their Honda dealer where the driver’s or passenger’s side curtain airbag will be replaced as needed, free of charge.

In the meantime, owners of 2012 Honda Accord or Crosstour models with any questions or concerns may contact Honda at 1-800-999-1009. Reference the Honda safety recall campaign Nos. S19, S20.

Alternatively, owners of vehicles involved in the campaign may contact the NHTSA’s Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 or go to www.safercar.gov.  Reference the NHTSA campaign ID No. 12V030000.
