Keep Ice Longer

In the end, the functional purpose of a cooler is to keep the contents cold. By combining thicker walls, added insulation (especially in the lid), and a full-frame gasket, YETI® coolers out-insulate the others!

spacer Keeping things cold in a cooler is not rocket science. The process includes insulating the right places, keeping warm air out, and packing of ice and contents properly. Other cooler companies compromise performance in an effort to engineer cost out of their product. At YETI®, we do the opposite. We engineer performance into our coolers!

Thicker, cooler walls mean more cold-containing insulation.

spacer The walls in our best-selling YETI® Tundra are two inches thick and filled with premium polyurethane insulation for maximum ice retention. You’ll typically find just ½ inch of insulation in ordinary “disposable” coolers and maybe an inch in the more expensive models. The bottom line is that insulation thickness correlates to ice retention and YETI® is second to none!

Our lids have 3 inches of insulation, because that’s where it’s needed most.

We find it utterly amazing that some cooler manufacturers put absolutely no insulation in their cooler lids. That’s like insulating the walls of a home, but not the attic. Ice can’t last long if it has to absorb heat from perishables and the top of the cooler, which is exposed to the sun, too. A YETI® Tundra cooler has three inches of premium insulation in the lid. That’s 50% more insulation than in its cooler walls! YETI®’s design makes more sense.

YETI® coolers don’t just close, they seal!

spacer Unlike ordinary disposable coolers, YETI® Coolers feature a rubber, freezer-quality gasket that seals around the entire lid. This seal traps cold air and keeps warmer, exterior air from leaking in. The seal, combined with the ample insulation, assures you of maximum, long-term ice retention.

YETI® Coolers can handle unwrapped dry ice without damage.

spacer At minus 109 degrees Fahrenheit, dry ice tends to crack ordinary coolers. YETI®’s tough, roto-molded UV polyethylene construction meets food-grade standards and lets you confidently use dry ice to keep your perishables colder, longer. Dry ice has more than twice the cooling power of regular ice, so you need less of it, leaving more room for food in your cooler. And if you’re carrying your cooler, using dry ice also makes your cooler lighter. For tips on using dry ice, see www.yeticoolers.com.

How to pack your cooler for maximum ice retention.

spacer There are definitely a few ice retention tricks and some advantages only a YETI® can give you. You can start by bringing your cooler indoors, out of the hot garage, before use. Did you know ice can be different temperatures? Be sure you use quality ice that’s stored in a sub-zero environment; and remember, cubes cool contents faster, but block ice melts slower. Prior to loading, pre-chilling or freezing cooler contents like meat or even beverages is also a good idea. These frozen contents can help your ice do the work. With YETI®, you can reliably use dry ice. It gives off twice the cooling power of regular ice and leaves more room for perishables.
