Welcome! My name is Shari and I am so excited to be here. My business is Turnstyle Vogue Design & Styling and this blog is my official website. You will be able to read my thoughts on design and styling and see my latest projects. In addition, my custom furniture pieces will be available through my shop. I love to create spaces that tell a story about those who live there. Something that has style but can also be lived in and functional.
A little about me…well, as my sidebar says, I am a 40-something wife, mother to four children, mother-in-law, and owner of one beagle, Scout. I live on the McKenzie River - eastern edge of the Willamette Valley - in the beautiful state of Oregon. Home to its famous namesake, it also boasts multiple trails, campgrounds, lakes, covered bridges, filbert orchards, waterfalls, and many more things to visit and experience. Give me an hour or so and I can drive east to a ski resort or west to the Pacific Ocean. Give me twenty minutes and I can be sitting inside a college football stadium (first choice!), dining at an eclectic restaurant, shopping in antique districts, or driving to a variety of vineyards. We live on a filbert orchard that we harvest each fall. Fall is my absolute favorite time of year so the timing couldn’t be more perfect. Did you know that Oregon produces 98% of all filberts (also known as hazelnuts) in the entire country?
I am a crazy sports fan and along with my family, spend almost all of my free time immersed in a variety of competitive settings. Often, our family vacations will revolve around some type of sporting event. This year it was the BCS National Championship to add to the great memories of trips past. I love it all – from pee wee to college and more. My husband and I grew up playing every sport available to us and it rubbed off on all four of our kids. There is nothing better than watching them compete doing something they love. As we approach fall, the excitement is brewing in our home! The seasons for pee wee football, high school volleyball and college football are getting underway and we are soooo excited!! I apologize in advance for any brooding - or excessive cheering - that I may inadvertently pass on through this blog. Just ignore me - and please don't send hate mail if you are not a fan! I mean, can't we all just get along? :)
Design and styling has always been a part of my life. Back when bell bottoms, roller skates and disco were all the rage, I would spend hours rearranging my room and coming up with a design that I was sure nobody else would think of. From stuffed animals suspended from floor to ceiling in all four corners of my room, to specific vignettes created for studying, listening to music, and doing my hair, I was always very careful to not have my furniture placement overlap! And school? How many of you design hounds “wallpapered” your entire locker with wrapping paper?!! I know you are out there! Oh, and holidays? Don’t even get me started...Turnstyle Vogue is here to help with ideas to design interiors and style events. Turnstyle Vogue also customizes furniture by redesigning and repurposing older pieces that make a statement in your home.
My passion is my livelihood and as the great John Wooden once said…”Do not let making a living prevent you from making a life.” Brilliant.
