NFL Week 10 Picks: In-Depth Predictions For Each Game

by Michael Gartman
Get ready to seek your their teeth into the most mouth-watering action-packed slate of games of the 2011 NFL regular season to date.  It all kicks off on Thursday Night Football with the Raiders (4-4) at the Chargers (4-4) on T.G.I.T. (Thank God It’s Thursday) on NFL Network. I can’t ever remember seeing this many toss-ups for a single week in the NFL.  I may even pull out a lucky penny and try to use the coin-flip method to pick most of these matchups. I don’t wager on games and I strongly advice you to stay the heck away from points spreads for this week.  You may have a better chance of winning the lottery and losing all of the money in the same day than you do of obtaining a ROI from betting on Sunday’s high-stakes head-scratching and [...] Continue reading → | 2011 NFL Predictions, Albert Breer, Jason La Canfora, Michael Gartman, NFL picks Week 10, NFL Predictions Week 10, NFL.com, Peter King, SI.com

NFL Week 9 Predictions: Ravens, Eagles Fly Away With Wins?

by Michael Gartman
I know, they’re really late and really short, but I couldn’t go a week without conducting my latest batch of NFL game predictions for Week 9.  But fear not, this is a one-time scenario.  Anyway, this week is chock-full of lip-smacking action to seek your teeth into.  Enjoy! Last Week: 8-5 (82-34 Overall)   N.Y. Jets (4-3) at Buffalo (5-2) (CBS, 1:00pm EST) The Bills are unblemished at home and the Jets are winless on the road.  Buffalo’s having a “whiteout” as well.  This is a monster game for both AFC East foes.  Buffalo’s ball-hawking secondary is the difference in thrilling fashion.  Prediction: Buffalo 24, N.Y. Jets 20 Miami (0-7) at Kansas City (4-3) (CBS, 1:00pm EST) This [...] Continue reading →

NFL Picks Week 7: Are Bears, Steelers, Redskins in Trouble?

by Michael Gartman
FL Week 6 featured a number of exciting high-stakes marquee matchups that went right down to the end of the wire.  Seven games were decided by seven points or less and only three contests were won by 17 points or more. NFL Network’s Jason La Canfora smells something in the wind—and its putrid blowouts this weekend.   While I’m often inclined to agree with the almost always accurate analyst and NFL insider, and I do believe there could be quite a few lopsided mismatches on tap, it might be overshadowed by the fun-to-watch early action. Tossups are at a premium this week with Washington (3-2) headed to Carolina (1-5), Chicago [...] Continue reading → | 2011 NFL Predictions, Albert Breer, Bucky Brooks, Jason La Canfora, Michael Gartman, nfl picks week 7, NFL Predictions Week 7, NFL.com, Peter King, SI.com

NFL Week 6 Picks: Put Up Or Shut Up For Many Teams

by Michael Gartman
If you thought last week was chock-full of excitement, you’re in for a real intoxicating and mouth-watering treat in NFL Week 6! Six more teams (Chargers, Chiefs, Broncos, Titans, Seahawks and Cardinals) take an early exit and have an opportunity to get healthier, change their game plans and perhaps dig deeper into trade scenarios with the trade deadline coming up on [...] Continue reading → | 2011 NFL Predictions, 49ers vs. Lions, Albert Breer, Bills vs. Giants, Browns vs. Raiders, Colts vs. Bengals, Cowboys vs. Patriots, Dolphins vs. Jets, Eagles vs. Redskins, Jaguars vs. Steelers, Jason La Canfora, Michael Gartman, Monday Night Football, NFL picks Week 6, NFL Predictions Week 6, NFL.com, Panthers vs. Falcons, Peter King, Rams vs. Packers, Saints vs. Buccaneers, SI.com, Sunday Night Football, Texans vs. Ravens, Vikings vs. Bears

Official NFL 2011 Predictions

by Andy Benoit
NFC EAST 1. Philadelphia Eagles Dream Team? Maybe. It all hinges on the wideouts staying healthy and Vick improving his reads.   2. Dallas Cowboys* Rob Ryan’s new system should help, but can the secondary hold up its end? Have the players had enough time to learn the system?   3. New York Giants Reshuffled offensive line might tweak the identity of the offense. Enough talent here to win the division, but depth could be an issue in places.   4. Washington Redskins John Beck or Rex Grossman? Ouch.   NFC NORTH 1. Green Bay Packers The most talented team in football top to bottom. Their biggest obstacle might [...] Continue reading → | NFL picks 2011, NFL predictions 2011, NFL rankings 2011, Super Bowl prediction

Green Bay Packers 2011 NFL Preview

by Andy Benoit
These days, when a team wins a World Title, it takes about 30 seconds for people to start wondering if we’re looking at the beginning of a dynasty. We’ve become Chinese-like in our appetite for dynasties. And the expectation for them is as unrealistic as it is unfair. Except, perhaps, in the Green Bay Packers’ case. OK, maybe talking dynasty is no less unfair to the Packers than it was to the ’09 Saints or ’11 Mavericks or the ’08 Phillies. But it’s much harder to blame people for wading into the topic this time. Thanks to brilliant long-term roster building by general manager Ted Thompson, this cohesive, rising team is deeper than Socrates and headlined by handfuls of stars in their prime. The brightest happens to play the most important position, making [...] Continue reading → | Aaron Rodgers 2011, Green Bay Packers 2011, Jermichael Finley 2011, Packers 2011 predictions, Packers 2011 preview

Detroit Lions 2011 NFL Preview

by Andy Benoit
Football America is ready for the Detroit Lions to grow up. It’s almost as if America is the stern father sitting the Lions down and telling them that in Year Three under the Jim Schwartz regime, it’s time they assume more responsibility and at least start pulling their weight on Thanksgiving. They’re not the NFC North’s cute little rebuilders anymore. The Lions won their final four games to finish a bearable 6-10 last season. For the first time in 11 years they ranked in the top 20 in both offensive and defensive scoring (15th offensively, 19th defensively). General manager Martin Mayhew has earned positive marks for the way he’s constructed this roster. Mayhew’s top four picks in 2009 – quarterback Matthew [...] Continue reading → | Calvin Johnson 2011, Detroit Lions predictions, Detroit Lions preview, Lions 2011 preview, Matthew Stafford 2011

Chicago Bears 2011 NFL Preview

by Andy Benoit
By virtually all measurements, the Chicago Bears should be better in 2011. They enter the season with fresh playoff experience. Their once-hot-seated leader, Lovie Smith, is now one of the five highest paid coaches in the game after singing a contract extension that reportedly pays him in the neighborhood of $6 million annually through 2013. The Bears offense is better acclimated to Mike Martz’s system and has three new key contributors in wide receiver Roy Williams, running back Marion Barber and first-round rookie right tackle Gabe Carimi. And the defense is the same defense that ranked fourth in points allowed last season. Yet, if you asked your gut, it’d probably say this team will not be [...] Continue reading → | Bears 2011 predictions, Chicago Bears 2011, Chicago Bears predictions, Jay Cutler 2011, NFC North predictions 2011

Tennessee Titans 2011 NFL Preview

by Andy Benoit
The relationship finally went stale. Jeff Fisher and the Tennessee Titans: over, after 16 years. Good run. Or long run, anyway. It’s somewhat astounding that Bud Adams employed Fisher as long as he did. In the Fisher era, the Titans made the playoffs just six times (in three increments of back-to-back appearances, for what it’s worth). But they were already seen as a beacon of stability – even during the nadirs of the Vince Young saga. That’s why watching Fisher and this team separate is like watching your longtime friends get divorced after their youngest kid graduates from high school. It wasn’t an acrimonious or even completely necessary breakup – just an acknowledgement that life together had become too convenient and redundant. And so the [...] Continue reading → | Chris Johnson Titans, Matt Hasselbeck Titans, Tennessee Titans predictions, Tennessee Titans preview, Titans predictions 2011, Titans preview 2011

Jacksonville Jaguars 2011 NFL Preview

by Andy Benoit
December 19, 2010. Indianapolis, IN. The Colts lead the Jaguars by 10 with 1:42 remaining in a do-or-die bout for the AFC South division title. Jacksonville has the ball at its own 29. On first-and-10 quarterback David Garrard drops back and dumps a pass to backup running back Rashad Jennings, who had come in for injured superstar Maurice Jones-Drew (knee). Gain of 12. Next play: a 14-yarder to Jennings, but a Jordan Black holding penalty brings it back. So, first-and-20. Garrard finds Jennings again for six yards. Then again for another six. On third-and-eight, he fires a 26-yard strike over the middle to wideout Jason Hill. First down. Jags call their final timeout. They’re in [...] Continue reading → | Blaine Gabbert Jaguars, Jacksonville Jaguars predictions, Jacksonville Jaguars preview, Jaguars 2011 predictions, Jaguars 2011 preview
