An Entrepreneurial “New Year’s Resolution”

by Sam Diener on February 8, 2011

Friends and colleagues:

A dear friend of mine, Rachel Richter, shared this work of poetry/song with me last night, and I begged her to let me share it with you.   Hopefully it resonates with you as it did with me.  I think it is a great motivator.   Let us know what you think!

New Year’s Resolution
By Rachel Amy Richter

Fear only fear itself
Then you will appreciate
When you strive for success and learn from mistakes
You believe in yourself and know what it takes
To stand up again and meet rainmaker ends.

This is my New Year’s Resolution
Go for what you want without fear’s intrusion
Keep you head up and walk proudly on
Wherever you get, be singin’ this song

If I fall then I fall
If I fail then I fail
I’d rather pick myself up than try not at all
If I win then I win
If I lose then I lose
No matter what, fear, I won’t choose.

Be only be yourself
Then you will appreciate
When you see someone else’s true self smile
You’ll be living your own life and know all the while
That we rock our days and live our hearts’ way.

Don’t only don’t resent.
Others that have found their path
When you see them walking down the street
Be in inspired by the dreams you seek
With no real reason to be antagonistic.

Do only do your best
Then you will appreciate
When you strive for success and learn from mistakes
You believe in yourself and know what it takes
To stand up again and meet rainmaker ends.

This is my New Year’s Resolution
Go for what you want without fear’s intrusion
Keep you head up and walk proudly on
Wherever you get, be singin’ this song

If I fall then I fall
If I fail then I fail
I’d rather pick myself up than try not at all
If I win then I win
If I lose then I lose
No matter what, fear, I won’t choose.

I vow to be honest
with myself right now and here
I take away lessons from past failures.
And view life through rose colored glasses
Self sabotage, it has no place near.

Work, live, laugh, love
purposefully for passion’s sake
Store it up, spend feelings on
Those you love, your heart grows strong.
Mindful that, self fulfillment is each day’s keepsake.

Fear only fear itself
Then I will appreciate
When I strive for success and learn from mistakes
I believe in myself and know what it takes
To stand up again and meet rainmaker ends.

This is my New Year’s Resolution
Goin’ for the gold without fear’s intrusion
Keepin’ my head up, walkin’ proudly on
Wherever I get, I’ll be singin’ this song

If I fall then I fall
If I fail then I fail
I’d rather pick myself up than try not at all
If I win then I win
If I lose then I lose
No matter what, fear, I don’t choose.
