Google+ Site Badge

spacer

spacer If you are still unsure about the Google+ ‘lingo’, the badge changes are for those whom wish to connect their site with a Google+ page.

This will help you connect with friends, fans and customers but, it also makes your site eligible for Google+ Direct Connect. (Direct Connect helps people find your Google+ page and connect with it from a Google search.)

Although the +1 icon provides a great way for visitors to your site to recommend your content or products, they are then able to share that content within the Google+ circles. The latest Google+ badge feature allows your visitors to directly connect with you and promote your brand on Google+.

Adding the Google+ badge can be done by following a few simple steps, click here for your own site badge.

Naming Policy Update for Google+

spacer

With Google+ aspiring to make sharing more like sharing in the real world, during the sign up process for new users you are asked to select the name you commonly use in real life.spacer

Since Google+ has launched they have received plenty of feedback regarding their naming policy, most people seem to sail through the sign up process however there is a 0.1% whom submit name appeals.

Google+ have analysed the name appeals and come across the following:

  • The majority (60%) of these users want to simply add nicknames
  • About 20% of appeals are actually businesses (who are inadvertently trying to set up their business as a Profile, rather than using Google+ Pages which were intended for this purpose.)
  • The remaining 20% would either prefer to use a pseudonym or another unconventional name.

They are now introducing a feature which will remedy these issues.

Support will now be added for alternate names, whether those are nicknames, birth names, or names in other script. These names will now show up on your profile as well as in the hovercards which appear over your name.

To add an alternate name, go to your Google+ profile, click Edit Profile, select your name and click on “More options”.

You can now communicate your identity in the way you want to however, remember when you change your name in Google+ you are changing it across all services which require a Google Profile.
