Praying that  wherever you wander this weekend,

you remember that He is with you, through it all.

Trust Him.

Your love has given me great joy and encouragement, because you, brother, have refreshed the hearts of the Lord’s people. Philemon 1:7

Trust

It’s Friday. With another illness sneaking through my house this week (strep throat) I am breathing a half-hearted sigh of both relief and frustration. It is, what it is. While it feels as if we will never be well, I know that is not true, so we are just cruising through this season of germs running wild here. Uhg. But, now, is a moment to write, to lay the chaos and Lysol aside, and just spill the overflow, unedited, uncensored, just let it fly. Joining with Lisa-Jo and others today.

The prompt this week is Trust.

My dearest sister,

I don’t know how to tell you that this valley of darkness in which you wander is not forever. I will tell you but I cannot prove it, you will have to trust me, you will have to trust the One who has led you here, and though you cannot see Him, he leads you still. I read  His words to you, and I pray that you will trust them.

Blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord, Psalm 40:4

I can tell you, and I will, that the blackest of your blackest days right now will not endure forever. You wear a crown of glory that He has placed on your head, you, his most weary princess. Burning in your heart, a seed he nestled in there that grows and stretches with His truths, as you wander parched and shaky in your Egypt. You plod through your days with your head hung low in defeat, and your feet scarred and sore from this seemingly unending path to who-knows-where, and you turn your face away when I offer you water.

You don’t care to drink from it. It is too hard.

I understand. Jesus said, but whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life. (John 4:14)

But what I mean to tell you is that the dusty tracks in your sandy hell right now are not yours. You feel weary, you want to lie down and say no more, but you do not see the arms wrapped around you, you do not see the way He carries you from sun up, to sun down, and all  through the long night as your pouring out your last for your children. Trust Him, He is there. He is because his word, His truth says that He is.

But as for me, I am poor and needy; may the Lord think of me. You are my help and my deliverer; you are my God, do not delay. Psalm 40:17

Your days are long and tiresome. He sits beside you as you rock, bleary eyed from exhaustion, from wounds that run messy under your skin. trust me, He knows this pain. He endures this pain again and again. I can tell you this, and to believe it, requires one thing of you, to trust, not just my words, for they are broken and misused at times. But His word stands unshaken, for centuries it has stood and when you collapse, and the words from the page filter up into your ears, into your heart, you will remember His love for you.

Lord, I wait for you; you will answer, Lord my God. Psalm 38:15

He is your God. He is your deliverer. He is with you, He is walking you through. He will lift up your head and wet your lips with the sweetest honey. He cradles you in His arms, and shelters you from harm under His wings. He sets your feet upon the rock and does not fail you, not ever. He crowns you with glory, with his radiant splendor, that you may shine brightly for Him with his word tucked in your heart, with His truth stirring in your soul–

Trust Him. Trust Him. On the other side of this valley, there is glory.

You do not walk alone.

Flight Of The Butterflies~Remembering How To Play

spacer

Our days here move at a pace that rolls too fast, a freight train with no breaks. I feel the weight of it, full behind me, baring down, and I am powerless to stop it. I can’t throw the brake, I have no power against time, as she pounds on relentless, never stopping her tick-tick-tick rhythm. It’s not that our schedules are so full, because they aren’t.

I can’t slow time because I can’t seem to find my own brake.

“Life is not an emergency” ~Ann Voskamp

I know what I need to do, these four little ones in my care, they constantly remind me, calling for snuggles, beckoning me to sit and paint, or to play dolls with them, crawling all over me while I read books and spin ’round the kitchen making dinner. Food fills us, and perhaps even the work fulfills us-

but we need more than this. We need to remember what it feels like to stop the work, we need the adventure of play.

Amid the suffocating piles of laundry and endless clean-up and meal prep and schooling, I have forgotten what it  feels like to “flap my wings”- buried in the work, I forget to play.

When they play, they are never in a hurry. They sit long and create stories and imaginary worlds, they become things beyond what is true in this moment.

They have found the brakes for the train, the way to stop the clock-

Join me today over at Sisters In Bloom, sharing thoughts on remembering to play, remembering to slow, because this time with them, it goes too fast–C’mon, let’s bring the discussion over here.
