SLAG!!!
Following its uber successful Xmas show (Taking Liberties), The Treatment Rooms Collective HQ, is proud to announce its new valentines special exhibiton ‘SLAG.’
The event will be held at Carrie Reichardt’s studios ……. 199 Acton Lane, Chiswick W4 5DA, on Friday the 3rd of February 6pm – Late.
Please RSVP for guest list.
The usual suspects from Mutoid Waste, Mutate Britain and The Treatmentrooms Collective will be exhibiting their work, alongside some surprise guests!!!
A female heavy show, the window display is an amazing piece of outsider art. Made by a ‘Recycling Fairy’, it is a composition of hundreds of found objects, toys and dolls made to create the Goddess Kali with babies gushing from her blood red vulva. Not your typical shop window for Chiswick!! But then The Treatment Rooms HQ is getting used to visits from the local law enforcement officers for causing a visual disturbance.
This show (as ever) gives art enthusiasts the rare opportunity to view eclectic and original artwork made by some of the top underground/outsider/lowbrow artists. Chances like this rarely come along, so make the effort to come down!.
All artwork can be bought direct from the artists (many of them will be there on the night!) 80% of the profits go direct to them; the other 20% is donated to REEL NEWS. They are an activist video collective who report from the frontline of protests from around the world, and give us an insight into what’s really going on out there as opposed to the propaganda propagated by mainstream T.V channels. Check them out on www.reelnews.co.uk
So yesterday I spent the day with the very talented Jewel Gooby, the owner of the West London Art Factory and she showed me around the studios there and how to use all the equiment.

Well the pop up shop in a studio has been going so well...that we are extending it up until Xmas...so you still have a few days to make that trip West and bag yourself some real bargins....

Today there is a rather interesting article in the Evening Standard - 'The naming of parts; a new frankness about vaginas...by the respected writer Liz Hoggard. Liz interviewed me for the article and I did provide a few pics...but unfortunately they were deemed a little too much for the Standard...notice there isn't a vulva in focus in the actual piece. But hey - full marks for getting a piece about the undeniable rise of the vagina in popular culture into the mainstream. Way to go sistah!!..And remember there is still time to sew your own vagina and add it to the now legendary Shoreditch Sisters WI vag quilt (Tracey Emin eat your heart out and make way for the Craftivists).
Anyway, I thought now would be a good time to reveal my new activist alter ego - Super Vag, as photographed by the very talented Neelum Bassrall. Read the full article at This Is London
Unbelievably, my horse was vandalised within hours of it hitting the streets of Cheltenham...and there was I thinking this was a posh town. Three horses were attacked, so I am not taking it personally.
Anyway, after being repaired by myself and Nick Reynolds it was decided that it would be better to have the sculpture indoors.

Just spent a couple of days with some very good friends of mine, (activist and artist's who I have been working with for many years) who are currently building an Iron age roundhouse in some woods in Kent. They are running workshops, so if you fancy learning some skills in building substainable housing check them out .

I have been having to work day and night to complete the horse, to that I can go up North on a special ceramica/enamel course - but yes it is finished and I am mighty proud of this piece.
Not sure what Cheltenham Festival will make though....as there is some pretty hard hitting facts and pictures about the abuse that the horse has had to endure at the hands of man.
Finally, my double headed elephant has left the studio...and will go on display in Sept in Milan.
I simply could not of completed her without a wonderful group of helpers and I thank all of you so very much...Team Treatment Rooms - you know who you are..!!!!!!
SOCIAL JUSTICE & RADICALS – Mary Bamber – A Revolutionary Woman
Mary Bamber - has just been brought by the Museum of Liverpool and will go on permanant exhibiton there....
Artists: Carrie Reichardt & Nick Reynolds
Location: St George’s Plateau
An informative mosaic figure of suffragette and social revolutionary Mary Bamber – once described by Sylvia Pankhurst as the ‘finest, fighting platform speaker in the country’ – reclaims the original ‘Speakers’ Corner’ on St George’s Plateau just as she did in the early 1900s.
Draw inspiration from Mary’s achievements, have your say and discover more about those women who dedicated their lives to bringing justice and equality to all.
My horse for Cheltenham is coming along nicely...with Nick Reynolds busy re-modeling it to make it a fine creature....hope Cheltenham appreciates our hard work!!!
Yes its back, bigger than ever...The Whitecross Street Party - held in the heart of London’s internationally renowned art scene over the weekend of the 23th and 24th of July. The street will be transformed and include some the world's most creative living non-conformist artists. The urban art exhibition continues along Whitecross Street until 19th August 2011. Happily the area famous for its historical creative's, dissidents and mavericks will now see again 'en mass' - Rise of the non- conformists.
Please come along, look out for the Tiki Truck and my flying eyeballs.........
I am talking tonight at the Catalyst Club being held for the first time in Oxford at the stunning Grove House.
Been very busy in my studio, with a whole team of lovely friends and volunteers, who have been helping me mosaic Phoolan's double headed sister for the new Milan show.
I have just been asked to take part in the Fine Form; Horse Parade. It is an an unusual exhibition of life-size horses and sees artists faced with an innovative blank canvas to experiment on this summer in celebration of the 100th anniversary of the Cheltenham Festival.Organised by Cheltenham Art Gallery and Museum, Fine Form: Horse Parade, a special exhibition of unique equine art, will be on show from Monday 1 August 2011.
Watch this space....
Just about to start working on a double headed elephant for the Milan Elephant Parade...am I am sucker for punishment or what.
