Welcome to my About Page. If you visit the site and read my posts, I believe that it’s important for you to know who the guy is behind these posts. Here’s some information about me that will give you a clearer idea of who I am, why I write what I write and how it may benefit you.

I was born in 1988 in Leeds, UK. I’d say that I had a good, fairly conventional upbringing. There was a large focus on education in my immediate environment, hence I went to Manchester University to study Economics and Politics. I lived in Manchester for three years whilst studying.

I had a very positive experience whilst at University. However, I found the study far too theoretical. There was nothing that I learnt there that would help me in a job or in life in general. The socialisation and independence aspect was great, but in terms of education it wasn’t really worth it to be honest. Nevertheless, I’m glad I went.

It’s definitely time to reform the education system.

Some things that have shaped my life:

  • Losing a friend to illness when he was only 22 years old.
  • Working the doors as a nightclub bouncer, better known as a “Doorman”.

Losing a friend really put things into perspective for me; life can be so short, that’s why we’ve got to make every moment count. Matthew helped to show me the importance of family and having the right priorities in life. Sometimes it’s important to remember that our business/work is only one side of our life, it isn’t our entire life!

Working the doors for three years gave me a vast amount of life experience. I saw some things when I was working the doors between the ages of19 and 21 that people should never see. However, I’m glad that I worked on the doors. It gave me a great insight into human behaviour, conflict management, the importance of creating the right image, establishing rapport and dealing with people.

I’m not ashamed of my past, but many people have preconceptions of doormen, which unfortunately some doormen still prove to be true. However, not everyone who works the doors is like that. I met some of the best people and some of the worst people through working the doors, but it gave me invaluable life experience.

Fast forward to July 2010, and I started an online business. I don’t want to bore you, but I came across many, many obstacles in the first few months. I guess I needed someone to “Hold my hand” when I was starting out, there was just so much to take in and so much “noise” out there.

Long story short, January 2011 I created BeliefandAction.com. It was originally a “Personal Development” blog, but it has been adapted into a blog that covers starting a business and the mechanics of blogging, subtly intertwined with personal development. I created this blog to help people starting business to get off on the right foot.

I’m 22 years old, which may seem young to some of you reading this, and I don’t think I know it all by any means. He who claims to know everything knows nothing. (Is that a quote!?) I’m just trying to offer a helping hand and add value by talking about the stuff that interests me and the stuff that I have experience in, and hopefully interests you! So why not join me for the ride?

Anything else just ask,

Robert
