Every student will have the option to purchase a PDF of the information from the workshop.

FAQ

what is the difference between Beginnings and Create? that is a great question! Beginnings is exactly as it says…it’s a beginnings toward photography. in this portion of the workshop, you learn about things like getting good exposure, learning how shutter speed, aperture and ISO work with each other, finding some good sweet settings to build from, metering techniques, reading your histogram and so on. we also cover our little tips and tricks for editing in the Beginnings part as well as a creative assignment to get your creative side flowing as well as an editing assignment. also, Brenda shares her set-up for indoor studio lighting and Kristy shares her lifestyle tips in Beginnings. lastly if you are a fan of the announced guest speaker for Beginnings, you get to ask them questions about their work. if you are comfortable with all of the above and you feel you know your way around Photoshop, it’s best not to take this part unless you would like a refresher course, you would like to learn what we do in Photoshop or pick up some lifestyle tips as well as natural light studio tips. Create is about thinking outside the box when you shoot…having a purpose and not just going out and shooting. if you are in a rut, this might be what you need. we have two very creative assignments for you during this part (as well as some optional assignments). we do not cover any editing techniques in this portion or questions about exposure and your camera. it’s all about creativity.

it is VERY IMPORTANT to put all you have into both workshops (as with any workshop)…..as the saying goes, what you put into it is what you will get out of it. if you are an active member, we encourage you to ask questions. with the assignments it’s so important to put thought into them and not just go out and do them. …you have signed up to be pushed to work outside your norm so it’s important that you do that.

how much knowledge should I have with my camera and Photoshop if I decide to take your workshop? it’s best to have the basics down with your camera as well as in Photoshop. it’s not required but it’s good to have so you don’t fall behind.

what version of Photoshop should I have? we both work in CS so anything that is Photoshop 7 and above is good. if you have Elements, you can always download a free trial version of CS5 at Adobe.com.

are there certain times that I need to be on the board? absolutely not, since it is conducted in a private online forum, it’s available to you 24/7 so you can jump on anytime. we do, however, require the assignments to be turned in by the assigned due date so we can discuss them and move on to the next assignment as a class.

how much do Brenda and Kristy participate in the workshop? we are on the board daily except for the weekends. that’s a great time for you to work on your assignments. all of our past boards have been very active with AWESOME participation from us and the class.

can I save and/or print the information from the board? of course you can….we have a break so the students that do not continue on to the second part of the workshop can gather all the information up and save it. the students that do continue through the entire workshop have a week to collect and save that information after the workshop ends. we do stress that it is best to save any information that you want throughout the workshop because we do cover a lot of ground.

why are there less assignments given out in Create? we want you to push yourselves with your photographs so these assignments require a lot of thinking on your part, therefore we give you ample time to complete them. we do however give out optional assignments for you to do in case you get your assignment completed.

what is the difference in being an active member and a silent member? an active member will get cc on their assignments from Brenda or Kristy, participate in discussions, be able to ask questions, PM us, partake in contests, etc. a silent member is just that, they get the rewards of getting the information shared on the board but do not get cc on their assignments, can’t ask questions, can’t play in contests…..basically it is just read-along for the silent members.

how much does it cost?

Bloom entire workshop $700.00
Bloom Beginnings $400.00
Bloom Create $400.00
Bloom Silent for entire workshop $500.00
Bloom Silent Beginnings $300.00
Bloom Silent Create $300.00
Former Bloomies entire workshop $75.00
Former Bloomies Beginnings $50.00
Former Bloomies Create $50.00

what if I sign up and then I then something comes up and I can’t do the workshop, can I get a refund? what is great about our workshop is that you can work at your own pace so if something unexpected comes up, you can always jump back on the board when you are finished and start again. we do not however issue refunds but you are more than welcome to sell your place to someone else BUT you CANNOT apply it to a future workshop.

some extra information about the forum

we have a section set up for you to chat with other students as well as a portfolio worthy section so you can post photos and get critics from others.

there is a resource guide from print labs, to book templates, to web services that is available to the students.

we have a fabulous guest speaker join us in answering any questions that the attendees might have. some of our previous quest speakers have been Mika Beth Edwards, Peta Mazey, Deb Schwedhelm, Mindy Johnson, Leah Zawadzki, Lisa Lucky,  Gina Kolsrud, Angie Warren, and Becky Earl!

and don’t forget the contests! our students LOVE them and we always get a little giggle how competitive they get! thanks to our fantastic and generous sponser we give away lots of goodies! Peta Mazey donates a set of her Child’s Play and Twirl Actions, Ashley McNamara gives away a set of her wonderful actions (a definite hit with the past students), your choice of any Luxecetera item (can you say YUMMY), Angie lets you choose anything from her stunning collection at Simplicity Designs, Marie and her modern and sleek forms and templates are hard to choose from because you want ALL of them, Joyce from Wordsmith graciously gives away your pick of How to Sell, What to Write or What to Wear, Jeanine Linder (a former BEGINNINGS and CREATE student) will create a logo for you (how cool is that)? The list goes on and on and we are so grateful to them all.
