Surprise Party With A Bang

7 Feb posted by Maureen

Can you believe me if I say I have never take part in a surprise party ever – well before this one anyway.

Around two weeks ago my bestest of friend, Mrs. RedsoxAngel message me to come at her birthday party for last Saturday at one of the famous club in Jakarta.

Of course I’ll be there!” – insert the usual ‘what-the-heck-am-I-gonna-wear’ dialogue with self here.

Fast forward a few hours later I got another message from our other best friend, Ms. Lavehede.

I blurted out “Oh her party will be so cool, I can’t wait!

She replied “Wait, Mr. Redsoxangel is throwing her a surprise party!

She then explained the plot err I mean plan to surprise Mrs. Redsoxangel on her birthday. Ms. Lavehede asked me to contact Mrs. Redsoxangel’s friends and ask them to come to their house instead of the club.

Alrighty! That’s easy or so I thought.

Stalking Mrs. Redsoxangel’s Facebook was easy. I just peek who she tagged and started sending mass messages inviting them to the surprise party.

Sadly, only a few people replied and RSVP. Ms. Lavehede and I were worried sick that not many people will show up. RSVP-ing for a party is still not a very common thing to do here I guess but oh well that’s another topic.

Anyway, on the big day Ms. Lavehede has been on her feet going all over places to make sure everything is taken care of since she had to take huge responsibility as the unofficial surprise party committee while Mr. Redsoxangel had to play it super save as to not blow their covers.

Mrs. Redsoxangel has been evacuated to a hotel since Friday so people can come and set up their house turning it into something that looks like it popped out of a magazine! Seriously, when I got there at 8pm on Saturday night I can’t recognize her yard! The pool was gone and replaced by this:

People starting to show up at 9pm, Ms. Lavehede and I quickly handed out the confetti around and set up plans with the photographers. Mr. Redsoxangel was to asked Mrs. Redsoxangel to make a quick stop at their house for some stomachache meds.

A little after 10pm they finally got to their house. She walked in behind him…and everyone cheered “Surprise!!!

Oh that look on her face was so priceless.

She greeted, hugs and kissed everyone’s cheeks and when she got to me she said “You!!!! I talked with you every day!” Half jokingly she shook my shoulder to which I just laughed and said “Sorry, dude. It’s a surprise for a reason!

The whole party was amazing. The DJ – the famous DJ – and happened to be Ms. Lavehede’s brother was awesome as usual and played really cool songs. Despite the constant complaints from the neighbors the party went on without involving a cop.

Her birthday cake was the perfect touch. A yoga cupcakes with different yoga poses! It couldn’t have been any better than that as she really is a hardcore yogini who does Bikram yoga daily among her other daily work out regimes. Btw, she’s the only person who managed to drag me to try the sweltering hot yoga!

Do you know how hard it is to keep a secret from you, girl?” I asked Mrs. Redsoxangel when she sat down and we had some drinks.

The party may not be in a fancy club but it was one of the most beautiful party I have ever been to and Mr. Redsoxangel did a really great job!

Happy Birthday again my bestie Mrs. Redsoxangel…I love you or as we chose to say “Me love you long time!” and I can’t thank you enough for our friendship throughout these years.

“Breathe…” I nudge myself gently “And let it flow…” My world is slowly shifting in a way that I didn’t see coming. It’s been slow and steadily changing. Of course my first reactions were to secure and double check the fortress I build surrounding myself. Just to make sure that I’m safe within. But as [...]
