About Caitlin Zaino

spacer Founding Editor Caitlin Zaino launched The Urban Grocer in January 2010. Caitlin began her lifelong love affair with food about 25 years earlier in her Italian grandmother’s kitchen, where she learned that cooking – and cooking well – was something she had a talent and a passion for. Soon, that love turned into an obsession and she’s been enthusiastically chasing food ever since.

spacer A native New Yorker, Caitlin has spent the past two decades zealously eating, traveling, cooking, and writing all about food and gastronomy. She’s ventured from working the line at a top Boston restaurant (where she was one of four women chefs selected to represent the restaurant at the James Beard House in New York); to developing, writing, and hosting a food show for Switzerland’s English-speaking radio; to authoring hundreds of articles on where to find the coolest foodstuffs, worldwide.

After helping to create a new category for food on Lost At E Minor – a well-known pop-culture e-mag – Caitlin decided that it was time to launch her own magazine. A young, enthusiastic foodie herself, she was frustrated by the lack of food media that focused on the exciting, inventive foodstuffs that she had experienced around the world. And so The Urban Grocer was born.

Today, Caitlin and her growing team of contributors scour the globe’s hippest cities hunting for the most cutting-edge, knockout eats and more, from the posh to the underground, the spectacular to the gritty. With a strong design aesthetic, The Urban Grocer showcases the intersection of art and gastronomy, and uses food as a medium for exploring cultures and cities worldwide.

In addition to managing the website, Caitlin is also the creative force behind The Urban Grocer Supper Club, where she conceptualizes, manages, and cooks pop-up dining events.

And just as she has done her whole life, Caitlin continues to chase food – this time, on the small screen as The Urban Grocer made its premiere on the Cooking Channel in April 2011. In the inaugural show, Caitlin – who is both host and producer – goes on a quest to uncover the freshest urban food spots around, starting in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

A truly global foodie, Caitlin has lived in five countries and seven cities – and that’s just in the past decade. From Switzerland to Nicaragua, from Paris to Mexico City, Caitlin has been on a hungry journey to uncover the most innovative, mouth-watering food fare in the world’s trendiest cities. Today, she lives in Geneva with her husband, Michael, and their dog, Taco.
