Yazoo Fortuitous Releases 2/18

Yazoo Fortuitious will officially release on February 18th, 2012.  Thanks to odd Tennessee laws, the release has to be handled like this:

The main problem is that due to Tennessee’s archaic beer laws, we can’t sell high-gravity beer here (see my previous post from last year for the details of why).So here is how we plan to do it: We will open up the doors to the brewery at noon on Saturday, Feb 18th. From noon until 2 PM, everyone who comes in will get a free raffle ticket. Then at 2 PM, we will raffle off the 120 special certificates that will allow the holder to purchase … Read the rest

Harpoon’s Newest 100 Barrel Series Released – Black IPA

Harpoon Brewery’s 40th release in the 100 Barrel Series is a Black IPA brewed by Harpoon’s own Matt DeLuca.  It was brewed with a new specialty malt called Midnight Wheat and flaked barley creating an almost stout-like appearance.  I wanted this Black IPA to be a very hop-forward beer; having a huge, hoppy nose was important to me said Matt.  He used Chinook, Simcoe, Cascade, Citra, and Ahtanum hops in the 7% ABV brew.

Style: Black IPA
Availability: 22oz bombers, Draft

7% ABV, 67 IBUs … Read the rest

Sixpoint “Slim Can” Resin Debuts Today

Sixpoint Brewery is debuting Resin today, in a unique can.  The 12oz package is as tall as a 16oz tallboy, but much slimmer.  It’s one for hop lovers. I took a few liberties with the press release:

Often enjoyed on draft and served in smaller glasses, double IPA beers are naturally strong and strikingly hoppy. They are brewed with roughly twice the amount of hops in the average IPA, and have a considerably higher alcohol content. The hops’ essence is produced within hop cones at peak maturity, when their cores swell up with a sticky golden secretion — or resin. This bounty of natural fresh flavor is the simple inspiration for Resin. To conjure the green petals of the cones, … Read the rest

Wild Heaven Releases Let There Be Light

Wild Heaven Craft Beers (Decatur, Georgia) is set to release their 5th beer on February 1st.  Let There Be Light is the first “sessionable” beer by the brewery, clocking in at only 4.7% ABV.   Rethink your approach to light beers, because this “Light” beer is full of flavor.  Eric Johnson brewed Let There Be Light with Nelson Sauvin and  Sorachi Ace hops, barley, wheat, and orange peel.  The beer is complex and light bodied, without a lot of alcohol to slow down your drinking session.

“Wild Heaven is always about flavor first and we noticed that people assume you can only get big flavors from big beers.” says Wild Heaven President Nick Purdy. “We challenged ourselves to create a beer … Read the rest
