This second week of February, I introduce you to my friend Mayya Al Said, from Sew Chic and Unique. She's from Oman. Oman is an Arab Country in southwest Asia on the southeast coast of the Arabian Peninsula. It borders the United Arab Emirates on the northwest, Saudi Arabia on the west and Yemen on the southwest.

1. Who is the persons behind the ‘Sew Chic and Unique’ ?
The person behind Sew Chic and Unique is a lady who had a dream. A dream of starting her own business in the comfort of her home so she could be with her kids. I am Mayya Al Said, born to a french mother and an Omani father, I am a mother to two beautiful girls and live in Sultanate of Oman. I am a self-taught sewing learned everything I know from the internet and love sharing tutorials and connection with others on my blog.

2. How did you come up with your business name?
As soon I decided that i wanted to start a business I knew that I had to give a lot of thought into what I wanted to be known as. I knew that I wanted a name that would indicate as to what my business was about. I wanted to incorporate the word "sew" into it and simply had a play with words until I came up with Sew Chic and Unique which I LOVE!

3. What do you create?
I create pretty and practical handmade accessories, my products are not only pretty to look at but have a purpose too!
My best seller is the handbag organizer which is the answer to everyone woman's prayer. I also sell crochet pincushions which are made by my mum.

4. Why do you create?
Because I enjoy what I do, its selfish because I mainly sew for me LOL
I enjoy the process of making something out of nothing!
It brings me much joy to know that I have used my time wisely in making something that would benefit others.

5. Do you sell your creations? If so, how? Where? And is it profitable?
I sell all my handmade items on my online shop website: www.sewchicandunique.com/shop. I make items in the comfort of my home and take pictures of the finished items, put them up on my website for all to see. Payment is made by using paypal and items are then shipped to your destination.
Sew Chic and Unique recently launched on the 12th of December 2011 so it is very early to determine if its profitable. However I have noticed that people appreciate things that are handmade, they realize that not only are they getting something unique but by giving a handmade gift you are making it personal. Furthermore by supporting indie biz owners you are giving back to the community :]

6. What mistakes have you made or lessons you have learned?
We all make mistakes and the beauty of mistakes is that we learn from them. I have learned to always trust your inner gut! if you know its right or like it a certain way then simply go for it. Dont let others decide for you, stand up for what you want to dont give up until you are happy.

7. What, to you is success? Have you achieved it yet, or are you on
your way towards success?
My success is to one day be known as an international brand, to be an ambassador for my country Oman. A person my girls can look up to as a role model. However my ULTIMATE success is that someone is inspired by my story to follow their dream.

8. So what's next?
Next step is to keep on doing what I love {sewing} and build my brand by promoting my business and introducing new pretty yet practical handmade goodies!

Today's guest is a male. Who are the persons behind the ‘Ojanto’ ?</span><br />When it started, Ojanto was established by Ojan (Fauzan Riza Adinugraha) and Putri (Putri Anugrah Sekar Ati) at October 2010. Sadly, as this January 2012, Putri chooses to focus on her study, so I temporarily become "the man in charge" now :)<br /><br />=> Meet Ojan (in case you see him in the street, don't hesitate to call him by name :)<br /><br /><center><img alt="spacer" src="/img/spacer.gif"> </center><br /><br /><span style="font-weight:bold;">2. How did you come up with your business name?</span><br />It is just a name. My name is Fauzan. My nickname is Ojan. And I called my personal creative space with "Ojanto". Luckily, my friends started to call me Ojanto, too.<br /><br /><span style="font-weight:bold;">3. What do you create?</span><br />Our specializations are in screen-printings and patterns. We are still in a long long way process of learning. But we always enjoy each step that we take <br /><br />The screen prints and patterns are then apllied onto fabrics (many kinds of fabric : blacu, canvas, baby canvas, cotton). After that we turn the fabrics into functional pieces which can be enjoyed by everyone <br /><br /><center><img alt="spacer" src="/img/spacer.gif"> </center><br /><br />Those are our products. Other than those, Ojanto also hosted PLAY YOUR MAGIC HANDS (a series of craft workshops),and ON DAY MONDAY - a 26 weeks feature posts of Yogyakarta's crafters and artisans. We have a wish to connect crafters around Yogyakarta, which we call "connecting the dots"<br /><br /><span style="font-weight:bold;">4. Why do you create?</span><br />The reason behind what we create is passion. We love to create something by hand and by design. In OJANTO, we try to give the best by craftmanship and design<br /><br /><span style="font-weight:bold;">5. Do you sell your creations? If so, how? Where? And is it profitable?</span><br />Yup ! We sell them. Both online and offline. Online, by using our blog and some social media sites (Facebook, twitter and google+). Then offline, we usually sell our creations in some handmade-specialty stores. Some of them are :<br />- JAKARTA (idekuhandmade and Galeri Salihara)<br />- BANDUNG (Tobucil n Klabs)<br />- YOGYAKARTA (Lemon Lime Store)<br /><br />Now about whether it is profitable or not, 'till today we actually haven't get a significant profit, yet. But we hope that someday we can make a living from this :)<br /><br /><center><img alt="spacer" src="/img/spacer.gif"> <br /><img alt="spacer" src="/img/spacer.gif"> </center><br /><br /><br /><span style="font-weight:bold;">6. What mistakes have you made or lessons you have learned?</span><br />Many. Both technically and non-technically. Technically, we learn a lot about screen-printing technique. About its tools, design and how to produce a good print in various medias. We're still exploring<br /><br />Screen-printing mistakes which often happen are a too-small design -which makes us hard to reproduce the initial design in 100% precision, and coloring -paints mixing can be fun and tricky at the same time <br /><br />Then, how to handle partnership is a very valuable lesson for us<br /><br /><center><img alt="spacer" src="/img/spacer.gif"> </center><br /><br /><span style="font-weight:bold;">7. What, to you is success? Have you achieved it yet, or are you on your way towards success?</span><br />success : when I can live happily with my passion and idealism. :)<br />yes, I'm still on my way :)<br /><br /><span style="font-weight:bold;">8.
