In celebration of the 54th GRAMMY Awards, we are debuting a special edition of (R)evolution. Shot on location in Los Angeles, Evan Green, CMO of the Recording Academy discusses the fusion of two worlds, the social explosion and the increasingly sophisticated expectations of consumers.

In this fascinating discussion, we learn how a 54 year old industry body adapted to the change in how people interact with television, music and one another, shifting from watching the conversation to engaging and helping facilitate shared experiences. More importantly, you’ll hear what it took to get management to see the opportunity for the future and how it changed the DNA of the Recording Academy forever. More...

by Graham Jones of Internet Psychology

Facebook engages its visitors; with almost 500m people visiting the site every single day it must be doing something right, after all. Not only that, but people stick around on Facebook, spending up to 20 minutes at a time on the site. Wouldn’t you just love millions of visitors who spend ages on your website? The fact of the matter is that few other websites get the depth and extent of engagement that Facebook achieves. So what is it doing right?

A new neuroscience study [PDF] reveals what is going on – and it is not as spectacular a finding as you might imagine. Indeed, the research shows a fairly basic fact which any website can use to its advantage. More...

Envy, schadenfreude and radical transparency with Duedil.com

One of the most useful web sites launched last year was Duedil.com. It makes available detailed financial data on every limited company and limited liability partnership in the UK and Ireland. For free.

I have become something of a Duedil addict. And judging by comments from people I’ve recommended it to, I am not alone.

People’s usage seems to follow a familiar pattern. Most people start by looking at financials for well known businesses eg Barclays Bank. Then they start looking at top firms in their own sector (in my case, I started looking at the fiscals for the top 10 PR consultancies). More...

Six out of ten Mummy and Daddy bloggers make money from blogging. But very few are making a living wage. One third report generating more than £500 from their blog per year, and five per cent generate more than £5,000 per year.

But for parenting bloggers that’s not the point.

Income from a blog may be a useful supplement to other sources of income but its way that down the list of factors that motivate parent bloggers to commit their content to the Internet.

Instead Mummy and Daddy bloggers cite recording their children’s lives, friendship and a creative outlet as their primary reasons for blogging. More...

Can Apple Maintain its Mobile Smartphone Lead?

by David H Deans of GeoActive Group USA
9 Feb 2012 13:35 No comments

Has Apple dropped the price of some of its smartphone inventory, purely in an attempt to win back market share lost to other vendors during 2011? According to the latest market study by Juniper Research, Apple has overtaken Samsung during the last quarter of 2011 -- but it's not clear if it can maintain that lead.

Almost 25 percent of the 149 million smartphones shipped worldwide in Q4 were Apple iPhones. While Apple overtook Samsung to reach the number one position, the Korean giant has increased its market share four-fold since Q1 2010 -- that's from 4.7 to 21.7 percent.

According to Juniper's assessment, we know that the increase in Samsung smartphone popularity is forcing Apple to continue offering older models to mobile network service providers -- in an attempt to keep ahead. More...
