Renewable Energy Certificates
Understanding Renewable Energy Certificates
BEF Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs) represent renewable energy from sources such as wind, solar, or biogas projects where clean energy has been delivered into the North American power grid to reduce carbon emissions from existing fossil fueled power plants.

We require our suppliers meet the highest standards to ensure we offer you the highest quality Renewable Energy Certificates available. Here’s how our RECs set the standard:
Beyond Business as Usual
BEF makes certain that your REC purchase goes beyond business as usual to help fund new renewable energy projects that would not otherwise happen.
Independent Certification
All of BEF’s RECs are certified by the nation’s leading, independent certification organization – The Center for Resource Solutions’ Green-e® energy program – so you can be confident that your purchase is making a significant difference.
Environmental Review
BEF is the ONLY leading carbon solutions provider that requires all of the RECs that it supports meet environmental impact and siting criteria set up by independent environmental organizations including the Natural Resources Defense Council.
Since 2008, Oregon State University has been matching 72% of its annual campus electricity use with BEF RECs. OSU’s purchase has earned them the third spot on the EPA Green Power Partnership’s ranking of Top 20 Colleges and Universities. OSU is also actively working to add renewable energy projects to its campus.
