About the Show

The Solid Verbal is a bi-weekly college football podcast with Ty Hildenbrandt and Dan Rubenstein.  Ty lives in Allentown, Pennsylvania; Dan lives in Los Angeles, California.  They’ve only met twice: once in Omaha, Nebraska; another at the 2011 BCS Championship.

The show was conceived while the hosts were doing work for SI.com — Ty was writing a weekly “Quick Slants” college sports column; Dan was shooting his popular “SI Tour Guy” video series.  The thinking was that creating a fan-centric college football podcast would fill a giant niche.  The Solid Verbal was born in August of 2008.

As of the 2009 season, The Solid Verbal was both the highest rated and most popular, independently-run college football podcast on the web.  Featured by iTunes on several occasions, the show has been downloaded hundreds of thousands of times and boasts thousands of listeners (or “Verballers”) in every corner of the globe.  Guests have ranged in name from prominent bloggers to popular reporters to well-known current-and-former head coaches.  In September 2011, The Solid Verbal joined forces with Grantland.com, providing the Grantland Network Podcast with a weekly college football recap show.

The Solid Verbal continues through the regular season, post-season, and off-season, because people don’t just cheer for college football, they live it.

Chime in and let Ty and Dan know what’s on your mind. Send an e-mail or call the voicemail line at 206-338-1784.

Meet The Hosts

spacer Ty Hildenbrandt is a 2004 graduate of the Pennsylvania State University.  To the confusion of most, he’s also a rabid Notre Dame fan.  After winning the “Next Great Sportswriter” contest on FOXSports.com in 2006, he went on to write for the site for a year before jumping over to SI.com where he eventually met his co-host.  He lives in Allentown, PA, where Yocco’s hot dogs are king, Billy Joel is an icon, and the first day of hunting season is a school holiday.

spacer Dan Rubenstein is a video host and writer. He counts himself amongst the most esteemed alumni of the University of Oregon (class of 2005) that have also created an online video series interviewing college football tailgaters. He resides in Los Angeles, CA, where he embraces the spread option while struggling to avoid the watchful eye of TMZ cameras.
