Prison ministry growing in TN

February 6, 2012

Let us all praise God together that Jesse Record has been baptized into Christ!
Last summer, I decided to start visiting a friend of mine from high school who was in the Chester County jail. Since then, the Finger church has started an unexpected, but blessing-filled, jail ministry. It has seen great success! Jesse is now the fourth convert to Christ that we have seen in the jail in the past four months.
Last week, brother Blakey Bradley from the Madison Street church in Clarksville, TN, contacted me. He had been studying by mail with three sincere inmates at the Chester County jail. Blakey was able to lead them all through belief, repentance, and knowledge of baptism. It was at that point I was asked to go visit them personally (since Blakey is almost three hours away).
Last Thursday, I was able to visit with Jesse twice. I was greatly encouraged by his knowledge of the Scripture and his sincere heart. I knew he was through with the life for Satan, and was ready to live the life for Christ. The authorities allowed him to be baptized today. What a blessing it is to be part of the family of God!
Be praying for Jesse and his newness of life. We continue to visit all of our new brothers every Thursday evening. They love the fellowship. They especially love singing and studying the Bible. Be praying for all of them.

The other two inmates that brother Blakey has been studying with are Stephanie and Heather. The rules of the local jail only allow males to minister to males and females to females, so the Finger church jail ministry has grown even more. Soon enough, we had six ladies who volunteered to become part of the visitation rotation. Last week, my wife, Kristen, and our friend, Kristina, visited and studied with Stephanie and Heather. We are pleased to say that the results were similar to Jesse’s. Stephanie and Heather have renounced their old lives, and are ready to obey God. The soonest the jail is going to be able to allow us to baptize them is next Monday. Be praying that there will be no complications in this. Hopefully I’ll be blogging about them next week!
God bless you all!

Thanks so much to Lance and Kristen for the good news, and the good work! You can read more about their work here.

Twenty baptisms reported in Cambodia

January 2012 Cambodian Mission Report...
This comes to us via the Melrose church of Christ, Melrose, N.M.

Last week there were 3 baptized into Christ at Kampong Cham. The week before the two congregations near Takeo had 17 baptisms...

Takeo is about four hours drive from Kampong Cham, our center of operations, so the seventeen baptism came from a special gathering of the two congregations our group has established in that area (Naren Lor, the cousin of former Cambodian King, Norodom Sihanouk’s third wife, has also established a congregation for the churches of Christ in the Takeo area).

One of the congregations is about two years old and the other is about two months old. There were over 70 people not counting youth and children present for the Sunday assembly.

The 70 count would represent less than half of those present, but that is the way Sophy counts gatherings. We are not going to be able to visit this area over about one time every two months, but C. Roung, a native of this area, who we trained in the Bible at Kampong Cham, is going to stay here to help them grow in Bible knowledge.

Thanks so much to Bill Singleton and the Melrose CofC for sharing the encouragement with us!
