As we explained earlier, Drupal modules are the building blocks of a great Drupal site. Drupal provides many APIs and Hooks to enable a skilled Drupal developer to make Drupal do what their client needs with a custom Drupal module. Custom Drupal modules come in various shapes and sizes, but in general, most are made to provide specific functionality to a website. Those custom modules that are useful for the community should get contributed to the Drupal contrib repository if at all possible, as they will help other Drupal sites grow without needing to hire a Drupal developer.
