About The Show

Usually the show comes first, and then the catalog. This time the process happened in reverse: first the book, then the show!

In 2010, Daniella Woolf published an exhibition in book form, Encaustic with a Textile Sensibility. This “gallery between pages” showcases the work of 23 artists from the US and Canada. Woolf holds an M.A. in Fiber and Textile structures from UCLA, and brings a textile sensibility to encaustic. Textile Sensibility refers to techniques used in printed textiles or woven cloth, for example repeating patterns, or the formalism of the grid.

Included is the work of Salt Lake City artist Jeff Juhlin, whom Daniella met at a R&F Paints encaustic workshop in 2002 at the Center for the Book. Jeff took a PDF of the book, before it was even published, to curator Erin Linder, at the Kimball Art Center, who immediately saw the potential for a show and booked it for June 4-July 31.

In addition to the show, Daniella will be teaching a 5-day comprehensive workshop for R&F Paints at Spiro Arts, June 1-5. and giving a curator’s talk at the Kimball on June 9th. Along with the show at the main gallery at the Kimball, there will be a locals show entitled,"FUSE" Utah Artists Working in Encaustic, curated by Jeff Juhlin and Erin Linder in the Garage Gallery downstairs in the Kimball Art Center.

We are would be pleased to see this show travel to more galleries, if you are interested in bringing EWATS to your town please contact us!
