Mark Irion, a veteran government and public affairs strategist, is Regional CEO of Grayling, based in Washington, DC. Prior to being named to his new post, Mark served as CEO of Dutko Worldwide, which was acquired in 2009 by Huntsworth, PLC, Grayling’s parent company. As the head of Dutko’s energy and environment division, Mark built one of the biggest and most respected policy practice groups in the nation’s capital. In 1996 he was named Dutko’s president, where his vision was instrumental in creating a widely recognized innovation in the practice of public and government affairs--Dutko evolved the model of separate advocacy, public relations and public affairs services into a comprehensive public policy management consultancy. Under his leadership Dutko was consistently ranked in the top 10 of Fortune Magazine’s Power 25, a peer-reviewed listing of the most powerful consultancies in Washington. In 2003 Mark was named CEO of Dutko Worldwide by its strategic partner, Lake Capital. From that time through its acquisition by Huntsworth, he led the firm through a sustained period of substantial growth, establishing nine regional officers and leading to Legal Times naming Dutko as a top-five multi-disciplinary government and public affairs firms.
Combined with his years spent in the United States Senate as an environmental and energy policy aide, Mark brings substantial experience to clients on communicating effectively to public and private sector stakeholders and building public-private partnerships. In addition to operational duties, Mark is actively engaging in helping corporate, trade association and non-government organization clients chart new strategic direction.
