There are certain types of plants that need consistent temperatures throughout the day and night.

Specific plants, like some forms of exotic flowers and foliage, need to be maintained in a climate controlled environment. Some greenhouse gardeners specialize in growing these types of sought after plant life.

How you plant your greenhouse specimens together can have an effect on the way that they grow. Some types of plants should be planted together to encourage each others growth and health and some need to be kept apart due to having detrimental effects on each other when too close together.

Greenhouses are generally kept warmer and water in the air can be measured and controlled specifically to meet the needs of the plants being grown. Delicate plants normally grown in warmer climates thrive in well controlled greenhouse habitat. It is possible to have a beautiful array of greenhouse plant varieties that flower and bloom throughout all the seasons.

There are a few strategic and productive ways to heat greenhouses effectively to produce the best quality of indoor plant life. The most common and less costly way is through solar heating. This is done by using the sun’s energy throughout the day time hours and storing the heat to last through the night when the temperatures are at their lowest.Sudden shifts in temperatures can cause plants that are less hardy to go into a dormant phase where they lose their flowers and leaves.

There are some economical ways to heat your greenhouse when solar heating is not enough. Heat sinks and insulation work together to offer a source of economical heat. This process is done by using dark colored brick in the north side of your greenhouse and filling dark colored barrels or containers with water to store the sun’s heat throughout the day and allow the heat to be released at night. Having your greenhouse properly insulated will hold in this heat throughout the night.

Depending on the size of your greenhouse, another option may be to use insulated blinds that roll down or an insulated cover over top of the greenhouse. The benefits of this are that you can change the indoor temperature and climate depending on the outside weather, thereby, keeping your plants thriving and sustained.

You may need to heat your greenhouse with fuel, wood or other sources of heat. It is best to buy a fuel efficient furnace or heater. You will want to do some research so you can choose the right heating equipment that will be best for your individual greenhouse structure. It may be helpful to speak to the product manufacturer representative or sales person as they are experienced and will give you tips on how to properly use your new heating and climate controlled purchase.

Space heaters or anything similar, must be used with caution and placed in areas where they do not put out too much heat onto fragile plants.

The great things about greenhouses are that you can start slowly and add additional equipment and supplies later on as you broaden your gardening skills. Anyone can utilize greenhouse materials as there are some simple structures for someone who is just starting out in this type of endeavor. More serious plant lovers or those that intend to use their greenhouse specimens in a business, may want to look into more advanced and permanent greenhouses.
