What you need to bring when climbing at Devil’s Lake in the summer
Devils Lake is set in the Baraboo Range in south-central Wisconsin. The weather in September can vary from warm and sunny to cold, wet and windy. Temperatures can vary from the low 60s to high 90s, so bring a range of clothing to accommodate the possibilities.

Clothing
- Multiple layers, including non-cotton to climb/hang out in if itβs cool
- Shorts
- T-shirts or tank tops
- Long loose-fitting pants
- Long sleeved shirt
- Lightweight non-cotton long underwear top & bottom
- Expedition weight fleece/wool shirt
- Warm fleece/wool hat for cold
- Wind shirt
- Rain jacket and pants
- Lightweight gloves
- Sunscreen
- Climbing tape
- SPF lip balm
- Bug dope
- Sunglasses
- Ball cap or visor for sun
- Lightweight approach shoes (closed-toed)
- Comfy Crocs or sandals for camp (open-toed shoes not recommended; keep those climbing feet safe!)
Gear
- Helmet, harness, chalk bag and climbing shoes if you own them*
*demo gear is limited, so please bring the above items if you have them
- Daypack
- 3 locking carabiners
- Self-locking belay/rappel device (ex: Petzl Reverso)
- 1 double length sling 48β
- Rack, if leading
- Headlamp, extra batteries
- Water capacity for 2 quarts while out climbing
- Pocket knife
- Camera
- Personal hygiene items, towel
- Cup for hot drinks, bowl/plate, silverware
- Camp chair if desired
- Ground pad for sleeping
NOTE: Showers and bathrooms are available in the campground. Electrical plugs available. Sleeping bags and tents provided. Bring your own towel and personal items.
