Neighbours

Reaching ethnic minorities in the UK

Neighbours Worldwide is sharing the good news of Jesus to people in minority ethnic communities. In the UK there is a thriving and growing population of people from areas of the world where the gospel is not easily heard. Among them are two million Muslims, 600,000 Sikhs and 500,000 Hindus.

Although living in the UK, most of these families have no real knowledge of Christ nor any contact with the Christian church. Neighbours Worldwide is committed to praying for those resistant to the gospel, as well as demonstrating the gospel of Christ in a culturally appropriate way, so they can understand it more fully.

You don't have to go abroad to do cross-cultural mission

God promises that people from every nation, tribe and language will be found in His Kingdom, and members of many different peoples can be found in towns and cities in the UK, right on our doorsteps. What a great opportunity to share Christ with them!

Neighbours Worldwide works alongside existing churches and other agencies in Birmingham, Wolverhampton and Walsall, with a vision for expansion in Leicester and elsewhere.

The team's work includes:
• Discipleship – ministry in Asian churches, bible studies, pastoral visiting, youth work
• Evangelism – door to door visitation, literature distribution, street work and developing friendships through ESOL teaching
• Literature production – including leaflets and texts in Punjabi, Urdu, Hindi and English
• Mobilizing for mission – training new workers and local churches in cross-cultural evangelism

The team ministers to people groups from the Indian subcontinent and Middle East, but are open to working with new ethnic groups rapidly appearing in the UK and to developing other kinds of ministry, willing to do whatever it takes to transform people in Christ.

Ways to get involved

• Reach out to your own neighbours. WEC's team can visit, and offer advice and provide resources to get you started.

• Encourage your church to reach the ethnic groups in your district. Invite WEC to share with your church or prayer group about our work, and be helped and inspired to build bridges in your communities.

• Be a partner in prayer, receive regular news from Neighbours Worldwide. Visit us and pray with us.

• Spend time with us on a short break, from one month to two years, or join as a full-time worker, learn the language and make an impact.
