Salutations.
The Gentleman is not dead. Neither is his Pastime, the consumption of fine libations amongst Superior Company and Culture. Gentleman’s Whiskey & Chat endeavours to be an evening of Civility and the Arts.
The First Evening, which we intend to be the First of Several, will transpire on 7 March 2008. It will be hosted by Grand at 374 Somerville Avenue.
Gentlemen: Suitable neckwear is highly recommended: ascots, cravats, or bow ties are ideal, while bandanas and scarves are frowned upon. Don’t forget a proper gentleman’s shoe, if you can.
Ladies: Your charming person and similarly exquisite sartorial tastes are expected and anticipated.
An RSVP is required; please RSVP to David, david {at} perpenduum{dot}com.
Update, 5 March 2008: We regret to state that our accommodations have reached their absolute capacity. As such, we cannot allow admission to any more Gentlemen or Gentle-ladies for this Friday, March 7th. We apologize, but we do hope to recreate this event in the future. Until then, continue to look spruce and chat academia with close chums and relations. We should like to express our profound thanks for the overwhelming response.
We must request that you Enjoy Bushmills Responsibly (and smoothly).
The MBTA services Union Square with motor coaches only at this time; trolleys are anticipated early in the next decade.
Somerville: Bus #87 goes from Davis to Union Square.
Cambridge: Bus #86 traverses Kirkland & Washington Streets, taking you from Harvard to Union Square. Bus #87 will take you from Lechmere to Union. Bus #91 will bring you from Central to Union Square.
Boston: The northern branch of the Green Line trolley line ends at Lechmere. Bus #87 will transport you from north Cambridge to east Somerville.
Brighton: Bus #86 goes from Brighton Center to Union Square.
Allston: Heaven help you. Your best bet is to take Bus #66 to Harvard Square, then climb aboard Bus #86 to Union Square.
Jamaica Plain: This isn’t pretty either. It’s probably fastest to take the Green Line trolley to Lechmere, then Bus #87 to Union Square. Alternatively, take the Orange Line to Downtown Crossing, then the Red Line to Central. You may then take Bus #91 to Union or walk north on Prospect Street, and turn left on Somerville Avenue upon reaching Union Square.
There is Street Parking available in Union Square. Metered parking is not enforced after 6 in the evening; residential-permit parking enforcement is Cruel and Heartless.
There ought to be ample parking for bicycles.
