Marsha, your comment here made our day! We love what we do here and are always trying to share that passion with others. Serving the children that we do is an honor that has been life-changing for every person on the Give Jewelry Team. EVERYone that works at Give Jewelry actually goes to volunteer at the orphanages we help. (they get on a plane exactly one year from their hire date) So our main mission way before selling jewelry is for people to connect with the children, it was life changing for us we each want to share that. SOOOO…… to get to your questions about needs of the children. 1. Always and ongoing need, INTERACTION. The situations that the children came out of left most of them with zero self worth and no esteem. Knowing that there is people around the world that care about them gives them a boost like few other things. So when you see comments and their photos here on the blog or on facebook, respond to their comments and let them know where you are from. It will make their day. 2. Their physical needs; the most current is rice,cooking oil,sugar ,toothpaste and shampoo. Someone just brought some of each of these a few days ago, but there are 205 children so more is needed. As far a teachers, yes,yes and yes. All types. Even people that just speak English as their first language help out immensely when they volunteer their time practicing English with the kids. (the ability to speak English well is a ticket out of poverty for many in 3rd world countries) 3. LANGUAGE; the national language is “Bahasa Indonesia” or “Indonesian” and is a relatively easy language to learn compared to most other languages. They also speak the dialect of the island they came from ( over 600 different dialects in Indonesia) 4. The JEWELRY; The bracelet you bought is already gift wrapped, boxed and sitting on my desk as I write this. Terima Kasih or “Thank You” on behalf of the children. This is an easy way to make a direct difference in the provision for them.
5. Daily Life; this is a brand new blog and we will definitely be adding photos and profiles of the children as well as daily life. I saw that you subscribed to the blog and that is the best way to keep updated at the goings on as you will get an email each time there is a new post.
