Hunger in MN

spacer Hunger has doubled in Minnesota in the past five years. Our communities’ families, children and seniors are in need like never before. Today, our neighbors are being forced to ask themselves difficult questions, like, β€œIf we buy enough food to bring lunch to work, can we still afford to have someone watch the kids while we’re there?” or, “If we fill up the gas tank today, will we be able to afford groceries tomorrow?” These are questions no one should ever have to ask…and choices no one should ever have to make.

The impact of hunger is broad.

And research proves that the effects of hunger are more complex and troubling than we’ve understood before. Not only does hunger impact kids’ ability to learn and grow and seniors’ ability to sustain health and quality of life, the the Cost-Benefit Hunger Impact Study commissioned by Hunger-Free Minnesota tells us that hunger actually hurts communities financially. In fact, hunger’s impact on society actually costs upwards of $1.26 billion in in direct and indirect healthcare and education costs.

But you can help.
