Leggo My Polo: Lacoste Spring 2012

09.10.11 By Najwa Moses

spacer In recent seasons, designers have been giving the t-shirt their full attention — embellishing them, painting on them, stenciling them with illusion patterns, cutting them into asymmetrical hi-low shapes, and/or stretching them out to mini and maxi length dresses. At this morning’s Lacoste show, the polo shirt got the star treatment. Infinite incarnations of the polo bounced down the runway in a range of navies, khakis, reds, whites, and blues. There were polo shirt dresses (minis and maxis), polo crop tops, polo blouses, polo vests… The prep theme was continued with floating dresses in raincoat and anorak silhouettes, hooded jackets, crisp shorts, and sharp-collared tank dresses. Actor Kellan Lutz, Basketballer Chris Bosh and new wife Adrienne Williams, model Selita Ebanks, and Paper Magazine’s Mickey Boardman were front row. Looking ahead, this would be the time to scoop up a polo shirt you can reinvent next spring. (Ladies, don’t be afraid to borrow your man’s polo.)
