The MTWTFSS WEEKDAY SS12 collection L’art recalls the dream of the artist and the freedom that signifies the artistic expression. The collection draws its inspiration from the artist’s clothing as well as from the studio, a place where the ruff and dirty joints with the beautiful and free. An androgynous and interesting look is achieved by using Italian artist Vanessa Beecroft’s monochrome style as influence.
Working around the idea of the artist as inspirer, various features associated with this theme have helped to obtain the look. The chaos of the creative space have inspired to a collection that provides the garments with an almost used feeling. The materials bring out a sense of washed and smooth rather than new and stiff, a form of loose elegance.
Key pieces include t-shirts with slogan prints such as “Buy art. Not cocaine.” “Make art. Not war.” And “Live with art. It’s good for you.” The smocks come in various forms. For women, a shorter model in cotton with a washed blue tone, and one longer elegant coat in linen-like material with a blue and grey nuance and a washed, wrinkled character. For men the smocks are short and boxy, in cotton and in a blue-grey colour.
Inspired by artist Frank Dale’s organic colour palette, the collection uses splatters of colour to heighten the artistic theme. The splatters make out prints on various garments, both in all-over prints and in splatter evoking of water colour.
The silhouette for women is loose, yet closer to the body than in previous collections. For men it is more about a nice fit and classical silhouette. For both men and women there’s a less focus on layers, in favour of fitting together top with bottom.
In the spirit of Vanessa Beecroft, a monochrome colour palette going from transparent grey to silver grey is combined with turquoise and bright, light yellow. Men and women are synchronized through colour in this 90’s reminiscent collection. A collection which communicates the daring purism, that signifies MTWTFSS WEEKDAY SS12 collection.
