Wendell Berry and Bill McKibben talk about civil disobedience in defense of the environment in this audio lecture. The U.S. has a long history of civil disobedience, from the Boston Tea Party to the modern Civil Rights movement. Often, active political protest has been combined with a life of writing. Wendell Berry discusses his current protests against mountaintop removal and reads from his poetry. McKibben talks about the protests against the proposed pipeline bringing Canadian oil to Gulf Coast refineries. Renée Loth, columnist for The Boston Globe, moderates.
