It won’t take long before Rissa is bored in the backseat. Right now she’s usually pretty content with one toy to occupy her on short trips. On long trips, it doesn’t really matter because she gets frustrated anyway. When we go for stroller walks, she usually clutches her toy the whole time and looks around or points. When she does start needing more entertainment while on the go, we’ll be making use of the Snack & Play Travel Tray by Star Kids Products. Right now though… Rissa doesn’t want it on!

With computers and video games, sometimes it feels like board games are a thing of the past. They aren’t, but we don’t bring them out quite as often anymore. Most board games seem to have an electronic version making it easier to sit back and do little during the game. Wise Alec is a family friendly game geared towards ages 8+. It’s a trivia game filled with information from grade school.
Gulp, do I remember half that stuff?

Yamodo is a hot game this holiday season (there aren’t many left in stock on Amazon!). It’s a game of fun and creativity. You are only limited by your own imagination! You can play with others (which is way more fun) or play solo if you are feeling so inspired. Basically you are given a made up word and you have to draw it AND define it.
It’s like Win, Lose, or Draw meets Balderdash meets Telephone.

Women love gifts of jewelry and you are sure to capture her heart with this Lover’s Key pendant from Alma & Co! It’s dainty and pretty, hearts creating the key. There is also a lock to compliment this piece, but I received only the key at this time. Treat your lips with Softlips holiday flavors: Winter Mint, Sugar Cookie, Sugar & Spice, and Sugar Plum Berry. I’m a lip balm/chapstick junkie so I was very happy to receive a set of the holiday/winter flavors. If you are shopping for women who live in colder climates like me, they will definitely appreciate a gift to protect their lips!
The flavors are not strong or overpowering, but more like just a hint of flavor. If you like the regular Softlips, you should enjoy these festive ones! My favorite flavor is Sugar Plum Berry, though I like the tingle of Winter Mint.

Literacy is so important and an early start will help develop a child’s skills and desire to read. Learning and school involves a lot of reading. If I hadn’t loved to read, I’m not so sure I would have done as well in school. I remember my parents reading to me very early on and encouraging my love of books. Unfortunately, my love for books sometimes challenged the family budget, but I could have been asking for worse things!
What Children Need to Learn to READ was written by Michelle Vallene, who has a teaching degree, specializing in reading and English. She has three children of her own, and while raising them she started her business, Learner’s Lane. It started with reading classes in her home, but the demand grew and classes were moved to schools and community centers.

Bronte & Frank Go To Moscow is a unique traveltivity book and CD set. It’s designed for children ages 3+, so I will be holding onto it for Rissa! It features a cute story of Bronte, a young girl, and her bear, Frank, who go on an adventure around the city of Moscow. It’s a hard cover picture book full of learning activities, stickers, recommendations, and a CD with songs. A portion of book sales goes to Diema’s Dream Foundation which assists disabled Russian children.

One of the new toy crazes this year is the Lalaloopsy doll. This doll is from the Little Tikes family. It’s refreshing to find a doll that is fun and silly without taking body image into consideration. There are other dolls that seem to emphasize looks a little too much for my taste (and not necessarily in an appropriate manner). This doll isn’t like that and is very unique!
