Hi, I'm Kelly Wilkinson. A journalist, author, craft designer and somewhat reluctant blogger.
I report and anchor for the NPR affiliate here in San Francisco, write a monthtly craft column for The Washington Post, and have created projects featured in magazines and websites including Sunset, Country Living, Design*Sponge and Apartment Therapy.
My first craft book Weekend Handmade was released Fall 2011 by STC Craft. I loved dreaming it up and writing it. You can read what some nice people and publications have said about it over here.
I grew up in a renovated barn in Virginia where we rolled back rugs to go roller-skating, always made our Halloween costumes out of big brown boxes, and had a table saw on the second floor until I was in high school. I can't fit one of those in our apartment now, but I do stuff a sewing machine, silkscreening gear, reams of pretty paper and piles of fabric into our hall closet. I am still navigating how to reconcile my dreamy, rural Virginia childhood with my urban apartment living. So far that involves growing vegetables in our backyard, keeping bees in Golden Gate Park and thinking of our neighborhood like a small town.
Thanks for stopping by, and please feel free to drop me a line. Writing an open, ongoing letter to the world can still feel kind of weird, so please don't be shy supplying the other side of the conversation: kellyatmakegrowgatherdotcom.
