Indian Spice Tours of Chicago’s Devon Avenue
Get a group of at least 4 of your friends together and join Anupy Singla for a walking tour of Chicago’s Devon Avenue and the Indian spice kitchen.
The author of the No. 1 Indian cookbook on Amazon since its release in Sept. 2010, The Indian Slow Cooker: 50 Healthy, Easy, Authentic Recipes, Anupy will show you the key 7 spices used to make most Indian dishes, and the most popular spice blends available on the market. She will also explain how you can easily make your own spice blends at home, likely with spices you already own – saving time and money.
An award-winning journalist, Anupy’s food-related work has appeared in the Chicago Tribune, the Wall Street Journal, the Chicago Sun-Times and various other publications. She teaches classes for Bloomingdale’s, Sur la Table, and the Kids’ Table in Chicago.
We’ll meet on Devon Avenue promptly at 10 a.m., and wrap up around 1 p.m.
Cost is $42 per person, which includes a sampling of food, spices and recipes. Tours can be scheduled in advance for weekends or weekdays. Additional details will be sent via email.
Cancelations with three days notice – so by Wed. morning of that week. No refunds though you have a year to make up your tour.
WHEN YOU DO SIGN UP, PLEASE EMAIL ANUPY AS WELL AT anupysingla@indianasapplepie.com and send her the names of the people in your group. Again, you’ll need a minimum of 4 people and a maximum of 10. Her cell phone is: 312 961 2565. For groups of 6 or more you pay $40/person.
It’s Here! …Anupy’s very own Bollywood Tour. You’ll start your afternoon at a Devon salon, getting your hands done in the traditional Indian way with henna (mendhi)……shop for the latest in 22 karat gold jewelery…learn how to tie a sari…and shop for the latest in Bollywood tunes. This is NOT a tacky tourist’s take on Bollywood. You’ll get inside information from a Punjabi-Amriken that’s grown up dancing banghara, shopping in India for the latest in jewelery styles, and listening to filmy music. We’ll meet on Devon from 1:30 – 4:30 p.m. Sign up on the link above, indicating which tour you are taking. This one is $42/person as well. Henna is extra and usually runs about $5/hand plus tip. We need a minimum of 4 people…and a max of 10. For groups above 6, you’ll get the discounted rate of $40/person.
