What We Do

GasPedal is a small company that works with amazing people doing fantastic things in word of mouth marketing and social media.

We teach word of mouth marketing to companies who want to earn their customers through love, respect, and amazing service instead of dead-end, old-school marketing.

We run SocialMedia.org, the community for heads of social media at more than 180 of the world’s greatest brands, including Procter & Gamble, Dell, Wells Fargo, Microsoft, Home Depot, and many others (see www.socialmedia.org/members).

What’s it’s like to work here:

Imagine never having another boring day at work. Imagine a place free of politics and whiners. Combine that with amazing energy and productivity that cranks out astonishingly good work every day. We don’t know it all, but we’re figuring it out together and having a great time doing it. Learn more about our philosophy here.

We pay slightly better than average (with decent benefits and a great health plan). All of our jobs are full-time, on-site positions in our Austin and Chicago offices. We’ve found that it’s too hard to rock our amazing culture with remote team members who aren’t in the middle of the action, so we do not hire telecommuters or part-timers.

How to get a job with us:

Show us what you’ve done and how you can do it for us. We want specifics on how you can solve problems. Show us that you’re someone we’d enjoy working with, someone with a great personality backed up by real skill. The first thing we’ll look at is how you write and communicate.

What we don’t do:

We’re not social media consultants or an agency. We don’t do social media training or campaigns. We’re not looking for social media experts or marketers. This isn’t a job about using your social media genius to do social media. It’s about helping other people thrive in a community where they can help each other. You don’t need be an expert on social media; you do need to be great at working with those who are. It does help a lot if you can talk the talk about social media as it’s used in business — but we don’t need bloggers, gurus, or anyone looking to build their social media profile.

Our mission:

Businesses everywhere are beginning to realize that honest, ethical customer love is the most powerful kind of marketing. They are learning to listen, to obsess over customer experience, to treat people like people, to value values, to respect the environment, to be part of the community — to be nice.

We teach them how to do it.

We believe this is good for society – and that it’s a profitable business strategy. Companies that get their customers for free through the power of word of mouth have a fundamental competitive advantage over those that use expensive marketing to chase fleeing customers. Smart companies reinvest those savings in service, support, and innovation – putting them even further ahead.
