Can I see your receipt?

January 5th, 2011 / Comments (3)

Leave it to those MICA kids to come up with off-the-wall, but totally engrossing concepts. Art meets data in Cameron Zotter's online project, Migration of Receipts. Over a 48-hour span, young master Zotter collected any discarded receipt he could get his hands on within central Baltimore City. On the ground. In the trash. And God knows where else. Then, he mapped the place of business they came from to see how far they traveled. One tenacious ticket made its way down from New York.

In a town where throwing shit on the ground is practically a profession, he took in a pretty big haul of receipts. And the data they reveal also provides a bonus glimpse into the buying habits of douchebags who litter. Hint: they're probably fat and poor.

Unfortunately, the charts aren't full rez, but they're worth squinting over. Bug him to make big ones available, would ya?

UPDATE! See the hi-res version here.

Thanks, Cameron. We'll update it. Keep the great work coming. And for the sweet love of Christ, would you let us know about it when you do? K-Bye.
