About

Biography

  • Geographical:
    • Jacob Christian Sutton came to Colorado in 1999 by way of Massachusetts, where he attended Boston University and was granted a Bachelor of Science Degree in Aerospace Engineering in 1995. Before that, he lived in East Tennessee and various parts of Florida. He was born in Southern California.

  • Career:
    • Obviously, Jake did not pursue a career as an Aerospace Engineer after college. A pair of co-ops at Sikorsky Aircraft while in school and a soft job market when he came out made it clear to him that the engineering path was not the one for him. (He still thinks about going back to his first love of architecture every once in a while, however.) Instead, young Mr. Sutton landed a job working the technical support lines for a consumer electronics gizmo called VideoGuide (the original developers of the oncreen television guide grid). It was at this job that Jake was first exposed to HTML, JavaScript, and Perl CGI scripts. After being laid off from VG, Jake started earning the big bucks as a contractor doing ASP development for Digital Equipment Corp., which was soon bought out by Compaq (which soon caused the contract to disappear, sadly). His last job in the Boston area was with the Stone & Webster engineering firm. After moving to Colorado, he managed to smooth talk his way into a ColdFusion gig building online catalog sites for a company called Synertech in Boulder (later known as SAKSoft USA) without actually knowing any CF. Jake then worked as a ColdFusion developer at Acxiom Insight (née InsightAmerica, née e-InfoData.com) from August of 2001 to January of 2007. At that point he joined another small firm in Boulder, called Foraker, where he has been able to move into Ruby on Rails development, which he loves.
  • Marital:
    • Soon after graduating college, Jake developed a massive crush on a barista named Heather in the Barnes & Noble cafe in Braintree, Massachusetts. After weeks – perhaps months – of gentle stalking, in October of 1995 he was able to steal her away from her subpar boyfriend, and they have been together since. Jake and Heather were married in October of 2004. Jake highly recommends a long and thorough “test drive” for relationships.
