New Website: An Affair with Italy

One of the loveliest fashion photographers with whom I’ve shot, Julie Adams, has recently launched a beautiful new website, An Affair with Italy, with her friend Emma Scott (a writer and designer) to share their love of Italy. There are interviews with other Italy lovers & insiders — I particularly liked Red’s Laura Fantacci on shopping, and beautiful photographs.

New Dress Woes

And suddenly I look up and we are half way through February. The new year, new me campaign has stalled slightly due to the snow: it’s hard to concentrate on eating plates of avocado when my toes and fingers are masquerading as icicles. That being said, I’ve lost maybe 5lbs, and exercise every morning in the unheated conservatory off my kitchen using my Pilates barrel and free weights: it’s amazing how quickly you warm up when you are huffing and puffing like a grampus. (I’d go to the gym opposite but it smells of stale sweat and man. In a wholly revolting, not clean way.)

LLG Lifestyle: Roses for Valentine’s Day

February 8, 2012 · 16 comments

Personally, Valentine’s Day leaves me pretty much stone cold. If the only time you feel able to tell your partner that you love them is on a day mandated by the greetings card industry then things have come to a pretty sad state of affairs. And less said about sitting trapped in a restaurant eating a rapaciously expensive set meal amongst a sea of uptight couples the better.

And then there’s the flower issue: I guess I’d just prefer that they came during the year for absolutely no reason at all, rather than because someone felt they *had* to. There is always room in my apartment for a pretty bunch of flowers, be it a posy from the garden, a bunch of daffs from the station stall, or something rather wonderful from, say, The Real Flower Company or my current London favourites Scarlet & Violet (who I wrote about here) or Broadway Market’s Rebel Rebel (from where Katie Rose sent me the most ravishing goodbye flowers).

But: I have had some Tweets & emails from some of my utterly delightful male readers — guys, you know I love you all — asking for floral advice,

Dog of the Day: Gaspard the Dalmatian (Supported by Dogs Trust)

February 8, 2012 · 8 comments

I was scouting in East London last Sunday for a film project when I wandered into  Maison Trois Garcons, the truly fabulous furniture and interior store, owned by nearby Shoreditch landmark restaurant, Les Trois Garcons. Although the décor caught my eye, it was Gaspard the Dalmatian who captured my heart.

Gaspard was hanging out with Michael & Hassan, two of the owners of Les Trois Garcons,  (and their bar Loungelover), and was more than happy to pose for his portrait. One of the best behaved dogs I’ve shot. We <3 Gaspard.

Maison Trois Garcons is at 45 Redchurch Street, London E2 7DJ.

LLG Accessories: Sawako Furuno Bicycle Helmets

spacer February 7, 2012 Accessories

I have wanted a Sawako Furuno cycling helmet since I first wrote about them in 2008, when I bemoaned the (then) bizarre attitude of some New Yorkers to cycling). But I either couldn’t afford one, or was on the road and couldn’t pack one in my cases. Now that I am based out of London […]

LLG Campaigns: Speak up, Save a Life…

February 7, 2012 Zeitgeist

Each one of these women was murdered by her partner. Sam Baker, the editor in chief of Red magazine published this letter on the Red website this week: “This is a personal plea, from me, to you, to lend us your support. You may have seen recently that there seems to be an increase in […]

LLG Fashion: Uniqlo Heattech

February 6, 2012 LLG Fashion

This is how I spent most of the weekend. It’s amazing how, as you get older, you really do care less about what people think. When it’s cold outside I just want to be as warm as possible, and sod style. However, I will give a nod here to my beloved Uniqlo down and Heattech […]

LLG Beauty: Winter skincare régime

February 6, 2012 LLG Beauty

When the weather is harsh outdoors, my main priority is to stop my face falling off, without having to spend hours patting unguents into my face…I am the queen of up, shower, shampoo, dry, make up and out the door in 30 minutes, I just cannot be doing with a 1hr 30 minute morning faff. […]

LLG Fashion: James Perse Opening in London

February 5, 2012 Fashion Industry news

I know it’s rather unusual for me to run fashion news on LLG, but I am quite excited about the upcoming opening of the first UK James Perse store. If only because it will make me less homesick for New York. (I lived around the corner from the Bleecker St store, and whenever I see […]

Re-Post: LLG Fashion: Snow Boots! Hunter Boots for the Snow!

February 5, 2012 Accessories

Regular readers will know that I posted this first back at the beginning of December as a Christmas present suggestion but, now that it is actually snowing outdoors, I thought a re-post was in order. I’m thrilled with my snow boots — both the moon version and the classic wellies that just happen to have […]
