Sinus Infection Symptoms – Check This List

spacer The problem is that not everybody recognises the sinus infection symptoms for what they are or, if they do, it is not at an early enough date to take effective control of the infection from the beginning. People often confuse the symptoms of a sinus problem with either rhinitis or a cold which won’t go away.

In broad terms you could say that the sinus infection symptoms are a runny nose (or possibly nasal congestion), a general lack of energy and a feeling of lethargy. Also, fever and headache can quite commonly be found. Occasionally the sinusitis will affect a person’s vision, one symptom of which is being hypersensitive to bright light.

Theย 9 Most Common Sinus Infection Symptoms

1) Nasal congestion which just won’t go away

2) A discharge from the nose of thick, yellow/green mucus which often has a foul smell

3) Pain in certain parts of the face. This is often felt around the bones just under the eye sockets and can be caused by a buildup of pressure in the maxillary sinuses.

4) Pain in the area around and between the eyes (can be especially bad in the morning). This sinus headache could be caused by pressure within the ethmoid sinuses.

5) A buildup of sinus pressure in the frontal sinuses can lead to eye soreness and a sort of background headache which seems to go on and on.

6) A sore throat which keeps coming back

7) Sometimes toothache (often affecting the molars) in the area of the upper jaw can be a sign of sinus infection

8) Frequent sessions of fever which come and go

9) Eyes which are hypersensitive regarding bright lights

Build Up Of Pressure Is One Of The Sinus Infection Symptoms

It will be seen from the above that a build-up of sinus pressure is often a clear sign of sinus infection and so a careful identification of the area of pain can be very useful. The three main groups of sinuses are the maxillary, ethmoid and frontal sinuses. The symptoms numbered 3 to 5 above will help you in seeing which particular group of sinus cavities may be infected. However be aware that a pain in the maxillary sinuses could just be the “overflow of pain” from a normal dental problem, as opposed to being a sinus infection.

So we have looked here briefly at some of the main sinus infection symptoms that you might come across and a careful study of them will certainly help in early detection of the illness. Because as always in medical matters the earlier the detection the more effective the treatment can be. But I would also like you to be aware that some of the sinus infection symptoms listed above are of course shared by other diseases and illnesses (such as cancer) so it would be best to consult your physician if any of the symptoms are particularly severe and/or persistent.
