The problem is that not everybody recognises the sinus infection symptoms for what they are or, if they do, it is not at an early enough date to take effective control of the infection from the beginning. People often confuse the symptoms of a sinus problem with either rhinitis or a cold which won’t go away.

In broad terms you could say that the sinus infection symptoms are a runny nose (or possibly nasal congestion), a general lack of energy and a feeling of lethargy. Also, fever and headache can quite commonly be found. Occasionally the sinusitis will affect a person’s vision, one symptom of which is being hypersensitive to bright light.

It will be seen from the above that a build-up of sinus pressure is often a clear sign of sinus infection and so a careful identification of the area of pain can be very useful. The three main groups of sinuses are the maxillary, ethmoid and frontal sinuses. The symptoms numbered 3 to 5 above will help you in seeing which particular group of sinus cavities may be infected. However be aware that a pain in the maxillary sinuses could just be the “overflow of pain” from a normal dental problem, as opposed to being a sinus infection.

So we have looked here briefly at some of the main sinus infection symptoms that you might come across and a careful study of them will certainly help in early detection of the illness. Because as always in medical matters the earlier the detection the more effective the treatment can be.
