You know, when the blurb for this story says nothing is dull (ok, my brain turned that into boring) in the Kraken’s Caribbean it just is not kidding! We met Captain Jezebel (Jezz) in Book 1 of this series. In this book we learn more about her than she ever wanted anyone to know. In case you have not read Book 1 (which I recommend) basically, many who turn up in this area and at this time seem to have come through a portal of some sort. This includes Jez and Emily our heroine from Book 1. Our hero in this book is Mick (her partner from the first book). Well, I think we have two heroes, Mick and the Kraken.

Ms. Betita has given us quite a mixture of genres here. This isn’t just Science Fiction or just pirates, this really is a mixture of those with Steampunk as well as Action and Adventure. Did I mention there is also romance involved? Because of her past, Jezz doesn’t really trust her feelings for Mick. She thinks he doesn’t care about her really. Mick, for his part, has been in love with her for a long time. He also knows better than to push her for her secrets. Jezz’s name before arriving in the Caribbean was Jasmina and that is the name those people call her by.

I could barely breathe while I was reading this! I have to say that I loved all the characters Ms. Betita created for us, and the humor she uses to describe some of them. I especially loved Nemo (the baby Kraken Emily names in the beginning). Alan, our hero from Book 1, is in this book towards the end. I loved both he and Emily from that book, and I enjoyed them in this one. I don’t really want to go into too much detail because I do not want to ruin the story for you all. I was not really expecting this story to be so full of action, but it is really amazing! I have to admit that I LOVE all of Maureen Betita’s works, including this one, and I am waiting with great anticipation for Book 3!
