Sundays In My City (My First Quiche)

by UnknownMami on February 11, 2012

spacer San Francisco, CA.
I made my first quiche and it was delicious!

Broccoli and Bacon Quiche

Ingredients:

6 large eggs, beaten
1 cup heavy cream
1/2 cup milk (I used 1%)
Salt and pepper
2 cups chopped fresh broccoli
As much bacon as you dare, cooked and crumbled (I used a 12 oz package of Niman Ranch bacon)
1 1/2 cups shredded Monterey Jack cheese
1 store bought pie crust

Directions:

Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F.

Combine the eggs, cream, salt, and pepper (I used an immersion blender). Layer the broccoli, bacon, and cheese in the bottom of the pie crust, pour the egg mixture on top. Bake until the egg mixture is set, about 35-45 minutes. Enjoy!

What’s cookin’ in your neighborhood?

I showed you mine, now show me yours.

Fragmented Fridays

by UnknownMami on February 10, 2012

Sometimes I just don’t get what the big deal is about whatever happens to be popular. Take for example cake pops. Big deal!

Everyone goes on and on about them like they’re the best thing since sliced cake. They don’t sound all that great to me. I mean aren’t they just mushed up cake and frosting formed into a ball and dipped in a candy shell? I don’t even really like frosting and the candy shell just seems like overkill.

Seriously people, it’s just a sugar bomb!

Moving on…

Don’t you love getting packages in the mail? It’s so nice. I recently got an unassuming package and opened it to find this box:

spacer

It looks a little like a baby wipes box, but it’s too light to have baby wipes in it. What could it be?

spacer

Someone took care to wrap up the contents so they wouldn’t get damaged. Is it something breakable?

spacer

If I’m not mistaken those are cake pops or cake balls ‘cause they don’t have sticks on them or maybe they’re cake bites. Hmm…mmm…

spacer

Well, they are awfully pretty. I think this one is talking to me and it’s saying, “Bite me!”

spacer

Oh for the love of all things sweet! These things are THE BOMB! So friggin’ delicious! I swear they’re better than cake. Really, if you haven’t tried them…what are you waiting for?

Wondering who sent them to me? The lovely Mrs. 4444 from Half-Past Kissin’ Time. Yup, she’s a cake pop pusher and I’m hooked!

And now your Friday Fortune Cookie
(don’t forget to add “in bed” at the end, if you are so inclined):

Bisexual Novels

by UnknownMami on February 9, 2012

spacer

I like to think that all the great novels I’ve read are non-gender specific, meaning that they appeal to both genders.

I love Milan Kundera novels and a huge part of the appeal for me is that even though he is a man, he writes women that I recognize. Sometimes I see myself in the women of his novels. Sometimes I think I am one of the women in his novels.

Thoughts?

A few weeks ago my MIL sent us a magnet with 101 Ways to Praise a Child on it and I thought it would be nice to create a Spanish/English alternative because praise is nice, but praise in two languages is even nicer.

Please share and download a free printable version of 101 Ways to Praise a Bilingual Child.

On a Beautiful Sunny Day

February 7, 2012

I wake up in a good mood, happy to be surrounded by family and feeling the love. My mother is visiting and Unknown Papi is around, which is rare. Our plan was to go to the library to see a puppet show. Since Unknown Papi didn’t have to be to work until later, I asked [...]

Google, Quit Freakin’ Me Out!

February 6, 2012

Google, as I have mentioned before, I totally dig your search engine; it’s the tops. I pretty much use it everyday and think it’s way better than the 1/4 set of Encyclopedia Britannica I grew up with (I could only ever do reports on things at the beginning of the alphabet). As far as your search [...]

Hope in a Paper Bag

February 2, 2012

Latinos, like bloggers, are a diverse and eclectic group. One of us certainly can not speak for all of us. Our strength and beauty is in our diversity. As a Latina and a blogger I would love to attend Hispanicize 2012. Why? Because it would be a great opportunity to mingle with Latino trendsetters in [...]
