Kindle Cloud Reader, which is Amazon’s web app for reading e-books online, has finally been updated with support for Firefox. It’s a perfectly good substitute when you find yourself without access to a native app. Kudos.

Apple Picks Up C3

Apple seem to have picked up a 3D mapping company called C3, according to 9to5mac. Based on declassified military technology, the company has created a way to easily render 3D models of whole cities (meaning they do not have to be pre-rendered). Be sure to check out the videos for a look at this impressive technology.

On Tim Cook

×
August 25th, 2011 ×Discuss

The Guardian has an excellent article on Tim Cook, the successor to Jobs as leader of, arguably, the world’s greatest technology company.

Jobs and Cook have balanced each other ever since. Where Jobs is famous for his explosive temper, firing employees on the spot, Cook is described as down-to-earth and soft-spoken. Where Jobs is known for his new age interest in vegetarianism and spirituality, Cook, who is from Alabama, loves Auburn U football and is a fitness fanatic. And where Jobs enjoyed rockstar-like fame early in his career as a pioneer of the computer era, the intensely private Cook toiled for years in obscurity, an operations wonk who became chief lieutenant at one of the world’s coolest companies.

Multiple From Addresses in Gmail Under iOS

I’ve been a long time user of Gmail and always loved every second of it. It has always beat the crap out of any other email service I’ve tried. I have had one slight pet peeve though, and it was something I ran into as soon as I got my iPhone. Before then, I only ever used desktops and so the problem was non existent. I have used Gmail’s feature of connecting other email accounts to my main Gmail one, therefore having a unified inbox (no need to log on to several different accounts) yet still being able to send messages from different addresses.

Up until now I have been unable to do this on my iPhone, and my new iPad. That is, until just now when I stumbled upon Nick Cernis’s excellent guide, the aptly named Solved: Gmail, iPad, iPhone, and multiple from addresses. It works like a charm.

Spotify to the States

Spotify is, apparently, finally making it’s US launch. Let’s hope this really goes through this time, as it has been known to be harder than one might think to get deals signed with the labels state side.

Update: It’s here. There is also this preview over at YouTube. It will be interesting to see the growth in the US market. Can Spotify regain lost ground and make it big, or is it too late?
