Project Inquiry

Challenge

As the world's leading equipment manufacturer of insulation glass, LiSEC assigned digital solutions specialist V Effects to create a visually appealing display for the 2011 VITRUM fair in Milan. V Effects devised "Interfaceless", a totally new concept. The handling of both software and hardware should be self-explanatory, and should be realized without complex menus or personal explanation. Augmented Reality was selected as the technology best-suited for the task.

Solution

A production line was reconstructed using the rapid prototyping process as a miniaturized model. Individual processes and stages of the production line were to be highlighted by Augmented Reality features. The AR part of the project, which is based on metaio Design, included a variety of markers that allowed for the augmentation of the miniaturized physical models with animated 3D models. Additionally, the animated models and their functions were explained in detail on a screen.

Conclusion

The feedback on the miniaturized production line with Augmented Reality explanation was overwhelmingly positive. Visitors especially liked the new and trendsetting way of presenting technical details. With the rapid prototyping model explaining itself through Augmented Reality, the LiSEC team was able to fully concentrate on the visitors of their booth.
