Santa’s Whiskers Christmas Cookie {Recipe}
Growing up we made these cookies every single Christmas and I have continued that tradition since starting my own family. Not only do they taste and look amazing, but they hold a very special place in my heart. This is my Pop Pop’s recipe and my mom still has the recipe card with his handwritten recipe. Every time I make these cookies I can feel his presence. This year especially I know he would have loved to see his great-granddaughter enjoying them for the first time!!
Santa’s Whiskers (makes 5 dozen)
1 c. butter
1 c. sugar
2 T. milk
1 tsp. vanilla
2 1/2 c. flour
3/4 c. finely chopped red and green candied cherries
1/2 c. finely chopped pecans
3/4 c. flaked coconut
Cream together butter and sugar. Blend in milk and vanilla. Stir in flour, candied cherries and nuts.
Form into 2 rolls, each 2 inches in diameter and 8 inches long. Roll in coconut, wrap and chill several hours or overnight.
Slice 1/4 inch thick and place on ungreased cookie sheet. Bake in 325 oven for 9-12 minutes, or until edges are golden.

Yum! The coconut in these sounds really good!
Those look amazing! Wanna send me some?
Thank you for the recipe. We have those recipes too. The ones that we make every year. Those seem to be growing though. We do a cookie try with probably 18 different items. It is a lot but it has become a tradition where mom and the kids all cook together. I love it

I love old family recipes, and I know exactly what you mean about feeling someone in the kitchen with you when you make them! I really enjoyed this post (such cute photos too!) and I do like the sound of those delicious and colourful cookies! I've linked back to it as one of my highlights from last week from this week's Hearth and Soul post. Thank you for sharing it!
I love the connection that shared recipes create. I have recipes from relatives and friends from around the world and using their recipes always makes me remember them. Thanks for sharing this with the hearth and Soul Hop.
Those look delicious! I love that they are part of your family tradition and that you are continuing that with your little one.
Kids tell NO lies – it is a great cookie!

Oh my gosh, you made me a little teary-eyed reading this post. I feel so lame. I have an ‘ol carrot cake recipe of my mom’s that is in her handwriting and every single time I make the cake I use the handwritten recipe to make it from and I always sob a little before and after I bake. Old family recipes are the best, that’s FOR SURE!
Thank you so much for sharing your story and the recipe, I will have to try the recipe, Christmas or NOT! They sound wonderful!
