Altuzarra fall 2012 show
I felt as though some kind of a magic secret ritual was about to take place, Bright red chairs, plush rugs and warm moody light created a very decadent intimate atmosphere. There were many “characters”/women in the show, but the ones that created a story for me were the ultra chic “French Governess” looks. They were black dresses with white cravates made of thick fabric, which I decided was a part of a tease - to make one think of a prudish girl…. But it was a delicious deception, as those dresses were tailored to accentuate the curves almost in a bondage-like way, and had ultra high slits that showed legs in high leather boots…. It transported me into Story Of O… To die for, if necessary!Staying mentally in the Marquis De Sade’s France, the last looks that I loved transported me into countryside where you may want to escape your strict governess and dance and frolic around in the fields with the Gypsies and peasant girls. :-)Tagged: altuzarra zuzanna bijoch

a doorman in new york
You know New York is a highly competitive place when you see that even the doormen here are THIS good-looking.I was rushing to Consulate LTD, a film editing company, for a meeting regarding postproduction about my new video for W magazine. Walking into the lobby of their building on Broadway and Spring street I stopped short in my tracks. Joseph Apostolopoulos is NOT a model and has been working as “Security” for years!Posted on February 11, 2012 with 1 note

Tim Coppens
I kicked off my fashion week with the Tim Coppens show, a men’s collection styled by my collaborator and friend Tom Van Dorpe.I’m rarely “star-struck” by models, but when the lights went up and the show began I was not looking at “just” models wearing a new collection - I was staring at the face of brand-new archetype/icon of the “Ideal” Man, a man you could hopelessly fall in love with.At first I was struck by his frigid but effortless cool, by his “lightness of being” - an air of youthful impetuousness, a thirst for adventure… A Rebel Without A Cause…But my impression of this charming immaturity soon grew into something weighty, something nostalgic and close to the heart. I saw young men of the Royal British Air Force in the WWII returning from their first combat. Their tired faces pale and proud, their hair grime-sleeked with machine oil…Their demeanor betrayed a ruffled-up spirit, romantic anarchy and adventure, but it was contained in the elegance or the militant rule and order.I loved the hair so I chatted with the hair stylist Rudi Lewis about his inspirations. He told me that men used to put shoe polish in their hair, and he was using black paint and gloss to mimic this effect! I thought this shoe polish story was kinda sexy actually! I like the smell of shoe polish. Plus it reminded me again of the romantic grimy faces of the young pilots….:-)So I can say I was really transported by this collection!Posted on February 9, 2012 with 1 note

The Model Alliance
Jenna Sauers (speaking) and Sara Ziff at the launch of the Model Alliance. Standard Hotel, Feb 6, 2012)
I have never had a female role model that I could identify myself with until two years ago when I met Jenna Sauers.Ever since I’d been a great admirer of her journalism, a borderline groupie in fact. Her writing, audaciously exposing controversial issues in the fashion industry, is profoundly insightful and honest, as she had been a model herself. It is fearless, funny and never gratuitous.Little did I know that Jenna had been working with Sara Ziff on a monumental and challenging project - The Model Alliance. (ModelAlliance.org)It’s a group (now endorsed by CFDA) that advocates the rights of a model as a professional, and creates awareness about the industry’s not-so-glamorous aspects like sexual harassment. The success of the Model Alliance is a wonderful surprise to me. In my experience it has always been a big taboo to lift up a curtain on the lives of fashion models. Unlike movie stars and other celebrities, I believe models are a very different sort of “beautiful and the damned”.Let me be clear: it is not a secret and NOT a negative fact that most models’ careers are as fleeting as the lives of butterflies and they are reported to not own “personalities”. It’s the foundation of this profession: they are mysterious creatures, blank slates on whom we can project our recyclable fantasies. Fashion industry guards this mystery with the ardor of Freemasons. However, even though a model’s “art” is an ability to adapt to any fantasy and assume any role, it should not to extend to the point of their physical and psychological damage.I believe a really great model is an Artist, but she is also a business woman and her body is her “property” and her “instrument”.I applaude Jenna and Sara, because, as it looks like so far, they were able to break (or at least crack) this Taboo. Their efforts have already caused some dramatic changes in the industry. I’m looking forward to see their work make this business - a Factory Of Fabulous Dreams - become more like a Fairy Tale with a happy ending!Tagged: Model Alliance jenna sauers sara ziff cfda elle muliarchyk

An uncanny moment I captured at the “24th Letter” party at ACME hosted by Horacio Silva.
I can’t believe how surreal it is in its resemblance to the Last Supper! Complete with Judas’s kiss and Mary Magdalene! :-)

I love lonely trees stranded in the concrete city landscapes. At nights they transform into multi-dimentional haunting sculptures and glow like jewels. This sad scruffy tree that I “met” last night on West 160th street makes me think of my favorite and enormously moving passage in Dante’s Inferno.Descending into the Seventh Circle of Hell Dante and Virgil entered a dreary mystic wood haunted by Harpies - winged death spirits with swollen bellies, human faces and female breasts.Dante stretched out his hand and broke off one of the branches when suddenly dark blood poured out of the wound and most heart-breaking tortured groans and lamenting cries came out of the tree.“Wherefore tear’st me thust? Is there no touch of mercy in thu breast? Men once were we, than now are rooted here”.It was a Wood of Self-Murderers, where the poor human souls are condemned to live an Eternity in a shape of tree, as their punishment for committing a suicide.
