Some more Polaroids from Ecuador. I’d like to get them scanned and sorted before I start scanning the rest of my film. I’ll probably make two or three more long posts. Some of these are dusty, oops.

Please click for larger images (they look better).

Sometimes, you’re compelled to go into chest-deep water with a Polaroid camera.

And sometimes it survives after going into a coma from getting hit by the wave this surfer was riding.

spacer

spacer

Sometimes, you come upon perfect rainbows shearing valleys from end to end against an electric sky.

spacer

spacer

Other times, you lay under pods of Pelicans flying low in long V-formations.

spacer

Or spot embraces under spindly palms.

spacer

Or moments filled with energy in evening light.

spacer

Or compositions in ashes featherlike, sootlike, scattered on hillsides and beaches.

spacer

Or you look where others look on tall volcanic hillsides,

spacer

along sub-tropical ranges,

spacer

or in tropical jungles.

spacer

Following the grooves of the earth from cars,

spacer

along landscapes gray and beige and green and black and blue,

spacer

barren places,

spacer

places that stretch the eyes,

spacer

where wild horses rove,

spacer

where mountains swallow up lakes,

spacer

and where mines swallow up mountains,

spacer

plunging hillsides under the gaze of infinity pools,

spacer

shaping white, artifical domes that mimic the Mediterranean,

spacer

and spread down to an ocean violent and thirsty and alive.

more soon,

arseni

Happy New Year.

Some updates: I visited Ecuador for five weeks recently. I plan to post quite a few images from there from now on.I will also post more past work that I’ve neglected.

This is the first part from Ecuador. The following images are Fuji Instax (Polaroids) taken from moving vehicles. These are unique one-of-a-kind images. I spent close to 20% of my waking hours in Ecuador sitting in a car, driving to places, from places, between places, in and around places, watching things pass by and the mountains change to jungle and sand. This experience creates some obvious restrictions for how photographs can be made, and what they can depict.

These were exercises; exercises created on endless snakelike highways trying to capture the people and the landscape and all else alien that flit past my fast moving window.

Please click on the images to see full size (more details).
